My bad day is even worse

My bad day is even worse

I can't believe it. FH just called me. He does house appraisals. While he was doing one someone broke the window out of his car and stole his GPS unit (it is a nice expensive one). Now he has to pay to get a new driver's side window and a new GPS unit What is wrong with people?!? The guy clearly was just after the GPS, since FH said he had a portable DVD player in the back seat and it was still there.

I don't know what's wrong with people. It's why I told FH to take the Sirius out of the car everytime he parks somewhere, but he doesn't listen to me.

Thats horrible and they are expensive. He probably needs it for his job too. My brother just bought one and he needs it for his job also and would be lost without it. Sorry

Holy Sh!t! It really isn't your day. I am sooooooo sorry!! Did you have your GPS unit insured? I wonder if car insurance covers theft like that. You could ask the insurance company

hopefully they will pay for it. His company may pay for a new GPS - since it is for work. UGH - so annoying though. Now his whole day is shot too - cause he has to wait for the police and can't find any of the comps he needs. Poor FH

I'm sorry that happened to him. I hope the insurance covers it.

that really stinks, i'm sorry... unfortunately, unless your FH had the GPS added as an upgrade to the vehicle through his insurance company they will not cover any lost/stolen items that were taken from the car.
See if he has FULL glass though because if he does that means he does not have to pay a deductible to use the coverage under the comprehensive he has on his policy.
He must have FULL glass (meaning no deductible applies to glass losses and he of course must have comprehensive on his vehicle). hope that helps a little...used to do this stuff for a living so i know all this kind of info. if he does not carry full glass then i would recommend safelite, the company i worked for always used them--they are reputable and have good prices.
good luck and sorry again!!

I am so sorry to hear that!

I just wanted to make a quick point about the glass coverage. My FH used to drive a Wrangler and everytime a rock hit the windshield it would crack. He had full glass coverage so he put a claim in everytime and they paid it no problem. However, when he went to change his insurance company they let him know that every windshield claim he ever put in had come up on his record and his premium went up because of it. I recently changed my insurance as well and my agent told me it wasn't worth having the coverage since it would only cause the premiums to go up with any claims I would put in for the windshield. I am sure just putting one claim in though wouldn't affect the premium on the policy but just wanted to let you know about what happened with FH.

Good luck and feel better! I hope tomorrow is better for you!!!

Yes, if you put in a claim so often like that it is definitely going to affect your premiums but one, two, even three shouldn't. The cut-off for my particular company (others may be different) was $1,000. If you put in a claim or series of claims who's damage added up to more than $1,000 in a time period of one year (for my company it was one) then your rates went up. The only exception to that is if you were rear-ended or a vehicle hit your parked and un-occupied vehicle. Otherwise, if you go over that limit then there is going to be some sur-charge. How much that sur-charge is depends on the amount, severity, vehicles involved, and fault of course but this one claim should be worth it if you have a normal driving record/and claims history.

Thanks for updating my info! Maybe I should call and put the glass coverage back on! i can't imagine me putting in that many claims in one year!
