My birth story
I couldnt sleep much on Thursday night... but going into surgery thats to be expected I guess. I had Emma in bed with me and we snuggled until I had to get up at 4:15 to be to the hospital at 5:45AM. ewe. DH and I get there and I am admitted. The 1st nurse trys to start the IV in my hand and she screws something up and has to remove it. My hand then blew up and started throbbing. I have a huge bruise on the top of my hand now from it. Then she goes to get a better nurse who puts one in the top of my wrist. Ahhh one stress over. I am hooked up to the machine and we hear my little man moving around. Then they start the prep for surgery. About 7:15 they bring me into the OR prep room and give DH his gear to wear and I meet the anastegiologist and see my doc for the 1st time. At this point I want to jump off the table and run away Im getting so nervous.
They bring me into the OR and they start the spinal, which with Emma hurt sooo much less because I was in sooo much pain. After about what feels like 6 pokes I start to feel numb... but only down my left side. Of course I let them know but they say its normal. I lay on the OR table and the curtain goes up after some last minute prep. My docs come in and they start poking my belly to see if I can feel it so they can start. I say 'yes, I can feel it, I can even still move my legs!' At this point Im close to freaking out because I dont need to feel this!! My doc says its not 100% yet and we will wait. After a couple more minutes they try again and I can still move my legs and I also tell them I can feel them preping my belly with the sponge. I told them it wasnt right. My doc said 'dont worry we will wait till you are numb' Then I hear the anasteg. say 'get me ketamine'. I think to myself no way are they going to give me ketamine, isnt that used on cats as a traquilizer? Not more than a minute later I am hallucinating. I am in some techo place and everything is geometric and Im there having a BALL. I remember towards the end being on what looked like a ice cream cone swirl of snow driving around with the Backyardigans (Nick Jr. show that Emma loves). Then I hear DH announce at 8:07AM 'ITS A BOY, we have a son'. I remember looking over at him and he is giving me the double thumbs up sign and I say 'what its a boy' and I smile then go back into my trippy state. They showed Jeremy to me and let me kiss him. Then DH and he went upstairs to the nursery. They were almost done and I asked the anastegiologist 'what the **** is going on?' because I didnt know THAT was going to happen. He said something then my surgery was done. I went to the recovery room and rested. About 11AM I could move my legs enough that they brought me upstairs where I could be with DH, Emma and my new little boy.
My recovery has been 100 times better this time than it was with Emma. I am in less pain (although it doesnt feel good!) and I was up and walking sooner than I was with her. Hes a nursing CHAMP although he must have been pretty hungry on the 3rd day waiting for my milk to come in or he was just pretty disturbed that we had just circumcized his little pee pee that all he wanted to do was nurse. My nips have seen better days but with each hour there is improvement.
Emma loves her little brother. She is constantly kissing his head and telling me about Jeremy. Its going better than I expected, although it kills me when she wants me the same time as he needs me and I can only tend to one at a time, and I cant pick her up.
Although its not the best story I have for delivery and it wasnt my ideal way I would have liked to have my son brought into the world I am so thankful that he is asleep on my chest as I write this and we are all home and safe and healthy. In all honesty I couldnt have asked for a more caring husband, a more understanding and amusing daughter and a more perfect newborn son.
