My birth story....

Original post by Stacey1403

.....As some of you may know I started having backaches and cramping during the day on Thursday the 18th. I was chatting away on LIW and they started getting stronger. I decided to take a nice warm shower and then went to sleep. At 2:00am I woke up with strong contractions and started timing them and they were 6 minutes apart. I woke Steve up and we called my Dr. and he said 'Looks like it's time to go to the hospital' So Steve and I get in the car during what was leftover of hurricane Isabel. The car was blowing all over the road and I kept telling Steve to slow down. We live in Shoreham and had to drive to NSUH@Plainview. When we hit the 135 HOLY MOLY the wind and rain let loose. The car was blowing all over the road, I thought Steve was going to have a heart attack We get to the hospital at 3:30am. We go into the emergency entrance and get escorted up to labor and delivery by a security guard. They set me up on a monitor but don't admit me. I kept telling Steve they better adnit me, or I'm going to freak. They were going to induce me on the 23rd if he didn't come so why wait? They finally come in and tell me my Dr. is going to admit me Hurray we are on our way. They also inform me that a my actual OBGYN will be delivering him so WOO HOO!!( I had spoken to the only one in the practice that I don't like that much and he said he was meeting us) My Dr. comes and tells me she is going to break my water and start me on Pitocin, but first if I want and epidural I can get it now(Girls don't be brave get the epidural ) The nurses tell me how I have the best anesthesiologist, this should have been my warning. I will call this Dr., Dr. Painful I am not exaggerating he stuck my 9x's and then had another guy come in and he stuck me 6x's So they tried 14x's before the 15th time and got it right. Meanwhile my contractions arte going on and they have me curled up with my head in my chest(which is quite large) I could hardly breath and they had told Steve he had to leave the room for 15 minutes, which turned into an hour so he was freaking out in the hallway. He wanted to punch the two of them, and while I'm in labor I have to calm him down. He goes out to have a cigarette and I turn to the nurse and say 'He's perfect except for his temper ) She says that's nothing we see all kinds of stuff when men's wives are involved. He comes back and says he's sorry So we are contacting every 2 minutes and I get up to 6 centimeters, and then I stop.
My Dr. looks at me with concern and says I don't like this You are having great contractions but you aren't dilating and his head isn't coming down at all. She then says I'm going to call it I want to do a c-section. Now everyone knows how adamant I was about NOT getting a section. But right away I was like OK. Steve starts freaking out a little and is like what do you mean. I tell him it's alright I trust Dr. Bervine and she's thinks we should do a section. So he says OK. They bring me to the operating room and put some heavy duty numbing drugs in my epidural. Which was one of the worst parts I hated the feeling like I couldn't move my body. Steve was wonderful and talked me through the whole time, we heard a little cry and then nothing I start freaking out and ask why isn't he crying like 20x's. Then he lets loose and starts wailing My Dr. tells me the cord was wrapped around hi neck so that's why my deliver stalled. I ask Steve why he isn't looking at him and he says I want us to see him at the same time I love my hubby In what seems like forever they finally bring him over and had him to Steve. Who is a bit shaky and I tell him to tilt him so I can see and he's like I might drop him. So the nurse before they take him to be weighted puts him over my head and lets me kiss his sweet little cheek When they are finished they wheel me into recovery and Steve comes in with my mother and they are all so happy and I am so out of it They finally bring me to my room with a stop off at the nursery window, where I get to peek at Damien and I am forever in love I ask my delivery nurse(who BTW was my Lamaze teacher ) when I can see the baby and she says soon. Well a nurse finally comes in and tells me there a problem with his blood sugar and they need to feed him formula( My MIL and sister had been down at the nursery yelling at the nurses that I was breastfeeding only!!!) So I get upset They finally bring him to me at 7:30pm and then proceed to tell me I can't feed him till they get his blood sugars back So of course he is crying and rooting around my poor baby. They finally let me nurse him at 9:30pm. My mom and sister stayed for mental support, but my boy was a champ!!! He latched on and had no problems at all!!! The nurses couldn't believe he was my first baby I was so proud of myself!!! I can't believe the overwhelming amount of love I have for someone I just met. No one can ever prepare you for it, or explain it but it is truly amazing!!!! I can't wait for all the expectant mom's on LIW to have their children you will love it!!! Also you really do forget about all the pain

Re: My birth story....

Congratulations again! Thank you for sharing your story with us!

My sister had the same problem with the epidural. They made us leave the room, too. She was moaning and hollering and her DH said to me, 'What's worse? The labor or the epidural??' So needless to say, you aren't the only one. Getting the epidural is NOT a pain-free experience.

Glad everything went well and your little is finally here!

Re: My birth story....

Phyl, my contractions weren't getting regular so my Dr. wanted to speed it along. They probably could of sent me home but because of the GD they decided this was it, so she broke my water and added pitocin
