My Boss Cancelled my Work Wedding Lunch

Things around my office have been pretty bad b/c of the economy ( I work in magazines and revenue is way down) and my psycho boss has been threatening all of our jobs lately. She made a new rule that anyone who comes in after 9am has to stay an hour later than normal on Friday. Today, 3 of us walk out of the elevator ( which said 8:58) and straight to our desks when we get an email from her that we will be staying late today because we came in at 9. When we told her what the elevator ( and our cell phones) said, she claimed her computer said 9, not 8:58 and that we needed to be at our desks already before 9. We were all visibly upset over by our desks discussing the situation when she storms over and screams at me and picks a fight, accusing me of calling her a liar since I claimed the clock said 8:58. She called me into her office and told me that coming in at 9 is the 'bare minimum' ( even tho i consistantly stay late!!!!!!) She would have no idea tho, since she leaves at 3 or 4 EVERY DAY! Meanwhile, MY WEDDING IS IN EXACTLY ONE WEEK. I cried ( wish i didnt but couldnt help it) and told her i had a lot of stress lately and she had no sympathy. I told her this whole thing was petty and ridiculous and I couldnt understand why she was singling the three of us out.

An hour later, an email was sent around that my pre-wedding lunch was cancelled with no explanation. It's so unfair and I cant deal with this on top of all the other stresses in my life! I feel like breaking down and I dont want to be thinking about my stupid job on my honeymoon

I worked in the magazine world for a long time and there are def. some wacko's working there...thankfully I lucked out for the most part.

DOn't worry about her..she probably just bitter. A good manager knows that it's not the quantity of time that you're at your desk but the quality of work you produce...she's just stupid to be a psycho clock watcher.

Which mag. do you work for? Editorial or Ad sales?

Ad Sales for a major womens mag. I just dont want to be worried about losing my job on my honeymoon. Seems like everyone here is getting laid off and this just gives her a reason if she wants to. She's a total psycho and game player. But one of my friends said to me that jobs come and go and i shouldnt even THINK about this on my wedding or honeymoon.

I've worked with my share of horrible people too. It's not easy. Soooo sorry you gotta put up with this crap. At least you're going to get a break from them for a bit. Maybe that's all you need. I remember when I was having some issues at my old job, and when I had a good week or two off (which i spent in Colorado w/ FH) it just helped soooo much! I came back refreshed and I also kinda missed s'more 'drama' that apparently went on without me. lol. So maybe that's all you need - time away. I hope things will get better tho.

Don't let her bring you down, bc that's exactly what she is trying to do. If she fires you over something SO ridiculous.. do you really want to work for her anyway??? Thanks, it SHOULD be an amazing time and yet i've been sitting at my desk crying all day and stressing about all the things i have to do for the wedding. Thanks for the encouragement, you are 100% right, misery DOES Love company and she is a miserable person. And if i lose my job over such a petty thing, it will absolutely be for the best! In the meantime, since im staying late, I'll be on LIWEDDINGS and work on my RD speech!

Thanks, i couldnt be happier that i have 2 more days here and then im gone until Dec 3rd!!!!

And she absolutely acts like a psycho and causes drama with everyone, but today was the worst i've seen and i have no idea why i was the target.

I agree with this completely. My old boss 'let me go' for ridiculous reasons as well. But i have to honestly say that I am sooo glad it happened. Seriously, there was just no way I would wanna be working for or with somebody like that anyway. So even though it came as a surprise to me and i was totally freaked out about where I was headed - in the end things worked out SO much better than they would have if I'd have stayed there. I truly do believe that even not-so-good things have a way of working out for the best. I mean, I can't say ALWAYS, but in most cases. Try not to stress about it (even though that's HARD).

I don't know - call me crazy - but I wouldn't talk back to my boss. Especially in this economy. I certainly wouldn't gather around a co-workers desk to talk about her either.

Definitely do NOT stress about your job on your HM but I would start kissing asss.

OMG what a bytch! It's obvious that she has some issues and is just looking for some guinea pigs to take it out on. I know that it is easier said then done, but try not to stress about it too much. Think that your wedding is in a week and how much fun you will have on your HM. Start keeping logs of when you sign in to your PC and when you sign out to go home at the end of the day. IT can track this and if she says anything to you then you can bring it up to her boss.
The week before the wedding everything seems to go wrong and that is normal. Once you walk down the aisle to be with your soul mate you will forget about any and everything that stresses you.

Its probably b/c shes ugly and no one wants to have sex with her. (Thats my reasoning for everything). Feel better!

don't let her get to you.. some people are rude and arrogant and there is nothing like bringing other people down to boost their own self esteem.. this is the most amazing time of your life.. enjoy every minute of it.. and if she fires you, who cares.. take it as a blessing and enjoy your honeymoon.. you will always find a job and you are qualified so don't worry about it..

I'm in Ad Sales for a publication as well and it's out of control right now. Everyone is on their wits end, clients are pulling out of campaigns. It's bad... Hang in there, you're going to be celebrating the most amazing time of your life next week!

You can't be serious? The three of us who were involved were discussing the time on the elevator, not sitting around calling her names. I dont want to work for someone who belittles her employees for no reason. I dont care what kind of ecomy this is, i have PRIDE.
