My boy had his teeth cleaned yesterday!

My boy had his teeth cleaned yesterday!

He had killer breath, now it's nice and normal!

Our pug was getting into some of our cat's wet cat food (I finally caught him in the act, on top of a table).

His teeth were getting yucky, so DH took him to his hospital, and cleaned them!

He's got pearly whites again!

We had our dog's teeth cleaned, they looked so nice, but now they're getting dingy again. Doh

How expensive is it and what does it entail?

I'll find out, but I do know the dogs have to be under anesthesia for the procedure, ours dog was under for only 15 min. (his teeth were not bad at all, but he has stinky breath).

It takes about 15-20 minutes for a normal cleaning, and they put the dogs/cats under general anesthesia. I think it cost us around $125 for the dog. It costs more if they have decay or need surgery.

All three of our dogs are older and could really use it but I'm weary of putting them under for a teeth cleaning ...

Depending on the teeth, if they are so-so, about 15 min. to 30 min.

If the animal doesn't need any extractions, my DHs practice charge around $250,
if they have horrendous teeth and need a lot of extractions, around $600.

After you get them clean, you have to keep brushing them otherwise they get yucky again. a friend of mine brushes her dogs teeth 2 times a day and flosses them (a bit overboard), i brush my dogs once a week or so.

Please tell me how you get a dog to sit for brushing and flossing. I can't imagine getting Scooby to cooperate. As it is I have trouble cleaning his eyes.

You can buy these little toothbrushes that you put on your finger, and special toothpaste that is chicken or beef flavor.

However, the easiest way to keep the teeth clean is NO WET FOOd....a strict dry food diet and Milkbones.
