He has said before, that WHEN it happens, the proposal, it will HAVE to be very special and a surprise. He also knows tho that I have very specific taste and wants to really make sure I get what I want, because its forever! So we are laying in bed yesterday morning talking and he asks, do I want To pick out my own ring, or have him pick one out with hints. I love thinking and talking about being engaged to him and just smile.. then I say.. you know what I think would be best? I then tell him... 'I think you need to have Tiffany's close down , and take me in to pick out any ring in the store I want.. just like the guy did in Sweet Home Alabama'
We both started laughing.. because he is forever calling me High Maintance, even tho I really am not.. but that is something I would say just to throw him off.. LOL

What would you say, or did you do?
Total surprise, had NO idea of the propsal or ring? Help pick out the ring with hints and pics? Pick it out yourself in the store? Or .. even design it yourself. ?
And, after all was said and done, were/are you happy with your decision?

Any recommendation on sites you can go to and see what the ring would really look like with the size stone..etc... with price?
Speaking of... I know that diamonds really REALLY vary... but what would be considered an average price for a ring with a 1.5-2.0 center stone diamond???? Ive seen them from 3,000-15,000... and with the markup on jewlery... not sure what is considered a 'fair ' price. I want white gold, cushion or ascher cut... thats all I know, and a decent middle stone... does not have to be perfect, flawless... I would rather have good color, even if there is flaws you cannot see with your eye...
Any other ideas where to go?

we did some ring shopping together in the city diamond district to get ideas and learn about diamonds.....
i did have inputs in what i wanted it is on my finger... he suprised me with the proposal i thought it would be at the end of this year but he just could not wait any longer and i am glad it happened how it did...exspecially with the way RH book up...
i love my ring it is beautiful its perfect and it is sooo me
but in the end it is only a ring and the significants meaning behind it is what counts

FH and I just went to fortunoff and tried on rings. I would suggest going there. Then FH went through a family member - so the prices would be different
as far as price - like you said it caries. for FH when i got mine he really wanted something with few flaws good color etc... i was happy with that. If you want a larger stone, for less money then like you said you may get a stone wiht some flawas that should bring down the price.
the only thing i can recommend is to actually go to some stores try on some and ask for prices.

I helped pick out my ring....FH picked it up on his own and surprised me with it....I am so glad that I did....what I thought I wanted, vs what I ended up with were very different......GO PICK OUT YOUR ROCK GIRL!!!!!

I believe I told FH once what kind of ring I'd like if we ever got engaged...I LOVE surprises so I didn't want to know anything!!! I for real had NO IDEA when...where...or if it would happen! He picked out my ring perfect!

i helped with the cut i wanted..but ultimately it didn't matter what he got me..just the fact that he saved up for it and proposed means more...as for the proposal I had a feeling it was coming!

He surprised me on Christmas eve... I started to laugh so hard I started to cry so our Shepard-houdn climbed up on my lap and started licking both of us while he was trying to propose.
It was a disaster, just like us. lol I wouldnt have had it any other way

my fh knew i wanted a round stone but that i have unique taste in things as well. honestly, him and i have such similar tastes that i would have been fine with, and was half expecting, him to pick out one for me and surprise me.
instead he bought me the stone and had it placed in a temporary setting (simple solitaire) and proposed to me with that. then he said he had worked out something with our friend, who's a jewelry designer (we went to art school) so i could get my actual ring custom made. him and i (and our friend) worked on it together and i ended up with what's in my avatar and i LOVE it. =0)

We looked at rings together so he knew what I liked then he went and got it and surprised me with it.
The funny thing was, I had something in mind and so did he and I ended up liking his idea better...lol They were sorta similar.
He is good at pickig jewelry for me though.

My Fh did it all himself. All I ever said was I liked emerald or princess cut. He designed it himself and did an awsome job. I couldn't and wouldn't ask for anything better. He really surprised me with the ring and whole engagement. I was amazing. I suggest letting be a surprise. If he knows you then he'll do a great job. There's nothing wrong with telling him what you like about some rings.

The proposal was a surprise, I did not know when or where it would happen. We had been together for 5+ years so I was getting very anxious for it to happen soon.
He proposed with his Grandmother's ring because he wanted to give me the option of picking the setting.
Her ring didn't fit, but we had her stone re-set and added 2 stones to it.

I always said that I wanted to design my own ring because I love having things that are unique. I told FH this for a very long time, but...I kinda do regret it..because now that I have to make the decision..I have no idea what I want! lolz..
