After three months of boot camp in Parris Island, he graduates tomorrow morning. I'm really proud of him. FH and I fly to South Carolina tonight so we can see the ceremony and spend some time with him before he goes to NY for 10 days.
Has anyone been to Parris Island before? Just curious!! We are also looking for a place to get lunch in Charleston after the graduation is over, so if anyone has suggestions please feel free to share!!! Thanks!
4/9 update:
I'm back from Parris Island and just wanted to share...my brother looked great-tan and confident..he gained almost 30 lbs of muscle (he really needed it!!) and i got really choked up at the ceremony. I'm so happy we got to experience this. He left as a kid who was quiet, unsure of himself but has always been a nice kid...and after the three months he has gained so much self confidence and has a whole new outlook on life. Its amazing to me. To anyone who has family in the military, god bless them! I think they are doing an incredible thing.

Thanks!! Yeah...we received at least a letter every week from him..he sounded sad in many of them and really homesick..but it seemed to have gotten better...AND he packed on 25 pounds of muscle (he left very scrawny). Should be interesting to see him!!

DH was pissed when he heard how 'easy' his little brother had it in Coast Guard boot camp a couple of years ago

Funny you say that...he wrote my mom 'please bring me butterfingers, cool ranch doritos and lots of soda ok??' hahahahaha...he reminded her 10 times too.
He said the 'treats' they receive are power bars and gatorade!! I would be so skinny if i went through it...

Re: My brother becomes a Marine tomorrow
congrats to your brother! my brother joined the marines and graduated several years ago. my whole family went down to see him graduate. It was such a wonderful emotional day... i loved the graduation.. We stayed in Beufort- what a town!! (scary) it was awhile ago so i forgot where we ate but we drove around parris island and spent time with my brother and he gave us a tour!
ETA: they all do look alike so try to find out where he will be standing so you can take pics.. thats the only way we knew where my brother was!

Congratulations!!! My brother is a Marine, who also went through Parris Island.....that place is scary!!!! He graduated about 8 years ago - so I have no suggestions for you!
Oh, good luck finding him in the crowd when they're all standing there at the ceremony!! They all look alike!

There's a great little restaurant that serves THE BEST She-Crab soup and buckets of crab legs (The Crab Shack) I think is the name of it.....also, if you want something a bit more formal...Magnolia's has a wonderful lunch menu.

Thats how i felt when my brother left for parris island. When my brother left, he had long hair was hanging with a bad crowd- my dad told him college or the military and my brother not only chose military but Marines. When we went to go visit him and seehim graduate I cried when I first saw him. He was just like you said about your brother- tan, muscular and the confidence was there! He was a whole new person. I was so proud of him. Where are they sending him first? My brother was in Japan for a year, North Carolina, California, Thailand... he traveled the world which he loved. Congrats to your brother!!!
