My Cat...Advice needed

My Cat...Advice needed

This is gross but here goes. My cat has now peed on my bed 2 times this week and at least 4-5 in the past month. He never has done this and I do not know why he has started now. He was sick last year with a urinary blockage but has been good for the past year. I have read that it could be a health related issue. His litter box has been very clean so it cannot be that.

I have had my cat since he was 2 or 3 months old I cannot remember he was so tiny. He has never been a very social cat and never comes near me or FH unless he needs food. So now he is 2 years old and I just do not know what to do.

Last time he was sick it cost me $1,500 in vet bills from the SPCA and now I just cannot afford that. I am not working and we are on a tight budget.

FH is now doing laundry and here the washer and dryer are so bad and it takes over 2 hours to do one load.

I am going to call my vet tomorrow and see what he says and try to get him in there.

Please let me know if anyone has any advice.

Thanks.

my kittens peed in the bed twice the first week we got them. the litterbox was clean. the vet said they could be marking the area with their scents and that they like to do it somewhere that smells like you (they said pillows are common ) luckily it stopped

it can be a sign of sickness too... maybe google around online?

we took our duvet off the bed and put on an old blanket until they had stopped for a while. maybe you can put an old plastic tablecloth on top of the bed and they wont want to lay on it or wont want to pee on it or it will be a different smell?

also, you say your washer is bad. you prob arent getting the scent out all the way. maybe try natures miracle or something else.... and put down a different blanket or just a sheet or something. you dont want them to keep smelling the old pee spots

keep us updated

Where do you live? When I lived in Brooklyn I went to a wonderful vet who was very cheap (it was cheaper than any vet I've ever been to, and that's a lot). FM me if you want her info.

I had a cat who peed on a lot of things. At first we thought it was because we got him when he was a couple months old from a parking lot and he had just learned to mark his territory. But when we took him to the vet he had crystals in his urine which is common for some male cats. The vet said that usually cats pee on things (especially light colored things) if they are sick. It's their way of saying 'Hey! I'm sick! Fix me!' Eventually it turned out he had a damaged kidney from when he was very little (some shelves fell on him and we came home to find him pinned under them). My dad got so angry one day with the constant peeing on clothes and carpet that he took him away. We have no idea what happened to him.

aw i hope your cat is okay. i don't really have much advice, but you should just keep your bedroom door shut all the time. that will eliminate the bed peeing and hopefully the cat will realize the only other place to go is the litter box.

the thing is I do keep it closed but if I go in there for something he comes out of no where and goes in there then gets under the bed and I cant gethim.

Have you tried the plug in that releases pheremones? That tends to help with urinating outside of the litterbox.

Also as silly as it may sound, maybe he doesnt like the litter that you are using. Although he doesnt do it all the time he may be a picky litter user :)

Aww I hope your cat is okay. Someone mentioned him marking his territory and I think this could be right. Cats can be a little weird and some can be spiteful. My last cat used to do little things when she felt she wasn't getting enough attention. Let us know how things work out.

Is he fixed? Usually un-fixed cats do this. I don't have any other suggestions...call the vet and see if he is sick. Poor honey. Did you change his diet or routine? Good luck!

aww.... i'm sorry! one of my friends are going through this and she first put oliver on ritalin. that didn't work, so her vet advised to put in these plug in things that release a hormone or scent. this finally worked, and they finally stopped doing laundry every day!!

My cat just did the same thing a few weeks ago, and I figured out it was because I changed to a different litter. We bought Simple Solution Natural Cat Stain and Odor Eliminator, which is a Ginger Eucalyptus Fragrance Oil Blend that has live active cultures that kill the urine, germs, odor, etc. It worked amazingly and left NO trace of kitty's 'mistakes' at all on our couch. Petsmart carries it . . .

You should get him checked out at the vet.

But, a couple of years back I had a male cat named Simon who could be nasty when he wanted to be. If for whatever reason he didn't like you he would find something (clothing) and pee on it for spite. I'm not saying that is the case with your cat but some cats have funny acting ways.

it's possible that he did it once when he was sick and now he's following his own scent. when we were kids, my mom decided to move the litter box location bc one of our cats kept missing and it was damaging the hardwood floors. well, ALL THREE cats continued to pee both in the litter box (in its new spot) and on the floor where their scents were still lingering. the vet said they find the box by its smell, so to them, the smelly patch of hallway where it used to be was free game.

okay so i read the post wrong. lol i needed to delete what i wrote since it now made no sense whatsoever.

how old is the cat? it could definitely just be leaving its scent. ive had cats my whole life and a couple of them would spray, as opposed to pee. even if they were fixed somehow they managed to spray. it smelled worse than pee lol.

i hope your cat is okay...definitely take it to the vet though! better safe than sorry.

Another 08er here crashing.
It could be a myriad of things.
I had one cat that was doing it to attract attention - she had a urinary infection. Vet gave us a prescription and all was well.

I have another cat (still lives with my parents) and he does it because he wants to be the only cat in the house (my parents have three chihuahua's and three other cats).

And a third cat did it (before I got him) because new people had moved into his apartment. The person I got him from was subletting and the guys brought their stuff over and Cricket promptly peed in their duffel bags. He did NOT want them there.

Did you change anything in your apartment recently? Cats HATE change and will react in this way if you so much as move furniture around or even get a new lamp. They're odd little creatures.
