my church is giving me a hard time....

Every time I call to make an appt with the priest the secretary keeps saying 'Whats the rush' and making weird comments under her breath...I was like what? All I want to do is meet the priest.

Oh yes, she also told me I should have done precana last year. I didnt know that....

Is this normal for the Catholic church to make it kinda difficult to meet the priest? I just want to meet him thats all...

I'm not too sure about Catholic...but I know that the one church that we were originally looking at... Epostical... it was IMPOSSIBLE to meet with the Pastor. His secratery kept saying that we need to go to ALL the services for him to consider us... We went to another churhc... LOL

Im sorry this is so difficult for you!

I met with my priest right away, he was very accomedating and I'm doing pre cana in May and getting married in Nov. As long as you do it I don't think it really matters how long before the wedding you do it

Some churches are very rude...specailly if you aren't about to change dates or anything....

aww im sorry..i think it just depends on the church and the staff.. we lucked out cause our church neevr has weddings so getting it done was no prob..i would just keep calling..forget that woman..and do what u gotta do

and ps precana last year? um no u can do it whenever..i mean not a week b4 but does not have to be a year b4?

She had told me that 'well you were SUPPOSED to go to precana BEFORE you meet Father Tom'. I was like no you guys never said that.

THEN I said 'you guys told me to call the first week in Feb and now you're telling me the priest isnt around' She goes 'well if you were AT sunday's mass you would know that he flew out to Nicaragua to do missionary work'

I was dumbfounded!

Oh and by the way, I am pretty much a good practicing Catholic. SORRY if I didnt make my sacraments at this particular church and my family didnt give donations.

FH called them a bunch of extortionists...

Yep! Or I get married at my old parish! She made me out to be a heathen.

I hate saying it like this, but it was the same as dealing with a horrendous customer service rep.

thats exactly what it sounds like...maybe she is awoman who never got married and now hates all engaged people....im going to burn for writing this

Um, no, she's crazy.

First of all, FIL's used to do the marriage talks and host at precana weekends, so they are VERY familiar with everything and they told us that it is PREFERABLE to do it closer to the wedding, at least 6 months but preferably more like 3 months.

Second, we met with our priest first before we even booked, he's so nice and cool for a priest lol, he gave us the lowdown and everything and asked us where we'd like to do precana and stuff. And we don't live in the area right now so it was fine we weren't members or anything. And yea you should meet the priest before doing precana, so you can meet each other and talk about the details..

she sounds like she's a miserable grouch. Hopefully the priest is nicer!

well now that i know I wasnt being the crazy bride, this lady has some issues.

Let's see if the old parish calls back. If not, I'm stuck with this old bat trying to c*ck block us from the priest!

I had a similiar problem. I booked my church (after many many weeks of leaving messages)and then never knew when I should pay them and schedule my rehearsal etc so I called them and the secretary got all nasty with me.. no joke she said 'Do NOT call back here until at least 6 months before your wedding'.. um HELLO i was simply asking when and what I had to do and asking when I needed to give YOU (the church) their money. I would so cancel with them if it wouldn't totally upset my FIL's

the secretary doesn't know what she's talking about, we met our priest a year and a half before the wedding and as far as pre-cana. It's supposed to be done within 6-9 months of your wedding, I have a pamphlet from Pre-Cana that says so.

I would show up in person or look into another church.
