My co-worker thought she could invite whomever she wanted to someone else's wedding!

My co-worker thought she could invite whomever she wanted to someone else's wedding!

My co-worker, Sally, is getting married in 2 months and invited a whole bunch of people from work including this woman named Maggie.

Maggie is 100% single. Maggie RSVPs to Sally with the number '2' filled into the # of Guests Attending line on the RSVP card. Sally is not happy since she invited only Maggie and tells Maggie that there is no room for her guest. Maggie comes over to my office really pissed.

This is our conversation:
Maggie: 'I can't believe Sally is being so rude. Why did her card ask how many guests attending if I'm not allowed to bring one?'
Me: 'What did the envelope say? Was it addressed to you and Guest or just you?'

Maggie: 'I don't know. I didn't look at it, I threw it away.'
Me: 'Well, the envelope is the guideline. You have to go by that.'

Maggie: 'That makes no sense to me. I go by the RSVP card. It asked me how many guests and I said 2.'

And she leaves in a huff!

It's people like this that create RSVP drama! So dumb!!

And to not even look at the envelope?!?! I spent so much time on my envelopes... the fancy addressing, the custom stamp...

That is why I filled in the amount on my RSVP cards. As in - ___ of 2 guests. I didn't have to worry about anyone 'misreading' the envelope.

My brother did that for his wedding 5 years ago since he was anticipating drama. This one woman crosses out the 2 and puts in 3!

That's exactly why we didn't have the 'Number of guests attending' Line- People are clueless!

We haven't had that one - almost all of our outstanding RSVPs are in - just waiting on less than 5 now.

My favorite was the dissertation on why they can't attend written on the RSVP card - you're not coming and that's the end of it - don't really care about the reasons why.

(That sounded so bridezilla but it annoyed me to no end!)

Either she is totally clueless or just plain selfish and doesn't care!

people write the names of who is attending, there is a line for that. Many of our guests would put 2 attending next to the yes will attend line

I also didnt have a line that said 'how many people attending' although i invited everyone with a guest.

Honestly, i know we all put so much thought into our envelopes and every detail but not everybody is going to care, its about of our weddings we have to get over. Some will be happy and focus on details and many will receive an invite and just say ok what day, what time and where.

it honestly sounds like your co-worker really thought she did nothing wrong and didnt realize the fact that maybe people were invited without guest. Some people just open up an envelope right away, and are not going to pay attention to an envelope. So sounds like she saw that it said 'number of guests attending' and truly felt that she was able to bring a guest. I think it was a common mistake and didnt mean to do anything wrong. Not like she said, oh i dont care if there is no and guest i am still bringing one. And not like she was a guest who was told 'we have reserved 2 seats in your honour' but meanwhile crossed it out and wrote 4 or something like that.

YEARS ago when i was single i have to say that when i received an invite i automatically thought i could bring a guest. Not that i tried to be mean but i honestly thought we were able to bring one. I think only when we plan our own weddings does the thought of no and guest come into mind. I wouldve only known there would be no and guest in the past if i was told, and i would respect the person for that decision but wouldnt have guessed myself.
