Ugh, our furniture is being delivered right now, and the movers for Raymour said that it's impossible to move our couch in because of the way we need to enter the apartment and the stairs. And now we have to buy another couch. But we have to buy one from them because they won't give us the money back, just a credit, and I didn't like any other couches besides that one. Plus we have to return the matching ottoman too, because no point in having that without the couch. I don't understand, what, the people before us didn't have a couch?
I am SO PISSED OFF right now. It's a small couch as it is, so basically they're telling us that we can't get a couch. They told us to buy the type that are really like 3 recliners that you just put side by side to have the semblence of it being a couch...but why would I want to buy something that I don't like or want?
I just want our money back, I don't want to be strongarmed in to buying something I don't want.

Re: My Couch
Oh no that s*cks! I’m so sorry!
When DH and I were apartment hunting we were deciding between 2 apartments that we really liked, and ended up picking our apartment just bc the other one had really steep stairs and a wall right near the top, so we were afraid of not being able to fit our furniture in.
I hope it works out.

Re: My Couch
Did you get someone else like a family member to move it in? Movers are stupid. We had one that said they could bring in the mattress. Are you effing kidding me? So DH said leave it. I'll get it in. Mover said there is no way. DH said 'watch me.' He picked it up himself and brought it in. NO PROBLEM. Guy was just being lazy. Another day we had our fridge delivered. Now, our fridge is MONSTROUS. That was a tricky one. Again, mover said we can't do it. Pat said again yes you can. And he and his Dad bought it in NO problem.
Did you try and get a few guys to play around with it? I'm telling you from our experience. Some movers are idiots and don't want to be bothered with a tough job.

Re: My Couch
That's exactly what I think it is...that they don't want to bother/are lazy/are afraid of being liable.
The way it is is you walk up on to the front porch, and we have a separate entrance to the right, so it's turned. You walk in to a small vestibule, and the stairs are to your left going up. They said because of the let turn to go up the stairs, they can't move the couch without destroying the wall and damaging the couch...so I think it's more a liability issue than anything.
Secretly, FH is happier than a pig in shiz because he hated the couch and just 'let' me get it. The really spiteful part of me is furious for this reason alone. But the practical part of me is upset because it's not only the one I liked the best aesthetically, but it was also the most comfortable. I'm also upset because I wanted a complex apartment (which wouldn't have this issue), but FH really wanted a private apartment, specifically this one because he felt comfortable with the older Italian landlords, even though it has like no modern ammenities and now these moving issues. BAH.
And please, tell me Macy's, why are your 'apartment sofas' 1300 when Raymour's full size couches are like half that?

Most times if they DO destroy the couch, the have to bring it back anyway. We ordered a very expensive stove from Best Buy. The idiots who delivered it dented the whole side in. I did not pay 1200 bucks for something to be smashed i! We saw it and said NO WAY. So they took it back and sent us a new one.
The deliverymen should be experienced enough to be able to deliver anything without damaging it. It's called covering the peice with adequate padding so nothing gets destroyed. Oh well. If you have given up on this couch, def check out Ashley Furniture. Everything there is very nice quality and their prices are very nice. We have a couch from there that is a two peice sectional and they delivered it NO problem. Good luck. I hope this whole issue works out for you!

Re: My Couch
Same thing happened to DH's parents. They bought all this stuff for their newly finished basement and it wouldn't fit. They ended up getting a nice leather couch from Jennifer's because they can take the couch apart and put it back together. Maybe the place you got yours from has something like that. The delivery guys don't always know I would go to the store and ask.

Re: My Couch
My sister once ordered a couch that was too big to make the turn into her apt. She had to hire someone to basically take the couch apart and put it together again. I can ask her for the info if you're interested in going down that route.

Re: My Couch
I have the same couch as you ordered and I got it in two different apts.
One they had to bring it in the back door and the apt Im in now we had to take doors off hinges but it made it around a tight corner.

Re: My Couch
That *****. I'm sorry. I know we had to take a door off once to move furniture. Is that an option? Also my parents bought a couch for their basement that came in pieces that were carried down separately, and then attached once down stairs. It came like that so it could be moved into the space. It is a really nice set. Good luck finding something that will fit.

Re: My Couch
Keep the furnit6ure and call the couch doctor and have them cut the couch... thats prob the best solution since you dont like anything else in the store..

Re: My Couch
Well, in this case it fits through the door, it's that it's too long (high in this case, since it had to be flipped on its side). It's 95' long and according to the movers the height of the ceiling was only like 88' or something, and they said the only couches they'd be able to get in would have to be at least a couple inches shorter than that even. So that limits us now. Unfortunately it's not the type that can be taken up in pieces, so we couldn't do that, otherwise we definitely would have. FH already refused it, since I wasn't there to beg and plead and cry and throw a hissy fit. He thought it was a piece of crapola anyways so he's taking the 'blessing in disguise' route. I'm just taking the now we're couchless route.
I doubt he'd be in to the idea of cutting the couch in half and repiecing it or whatever the couch doctor does. I just want this damn couch, I have half a mind to ask to store it in my bedroom or something until we get a house just so I have it. UGH.

Re: My Couch
When we bought our couch we were told by the movers that it just wont fit and thats that. We got ours custom made so it took like three months, so imagine my devistation. We told them to leave it anyway. FH called two of his friends and within 20mins i was at home sitting on my new couch. The trick was to get it out of the box and it easily fit throught those spiral stairs.
They dont go the extra mile, they just wanna be done with you. Good luck with the store, hope they give you your money back.

I AGREEEE, my dad was a mover in the city in his younger days... 1800MAttress tried to ******** me that they couldn't get my boxspring into the apartment AFTER the brought he same size matttress up without having to bend it at all to get it in. Dad measured and said no problem. And it wasn't. They're lazy and theydon't want to be held responsible for doing something to the furniture... but that's what insurance is for!
