the are a fake suede/microfiber type fabric in a dark coffee (like a little milk in your coffee) and my friend had animal print pillows that I'm not really into.....

maybe a lighter tan or taupe? If you want to be bold, you can try different shades of pastel pinks or rose colours....

I really like bold contrast, so I would go with either bright lime green or orange throw pillows. I like a retro chic style so that would work really well. If that's not your style, you should think about going with a light blue. Light blue and chocolate brown look awesome together and it's not as in your face as my green and orange suggestion. Good luck!

Our couch is that color and we have deep red throw pillows. Think more burgundy than fire engine red. We like it...

You can definiley do a rusty orange, but before you do anything, think about the overall feel you want for the room. You have dark couches, if you go with dark orange pillows, or even as the wall color, the room will have a very den-like feel. It will be cozy and romantic. If it's your main living room, you may want to keep it a bit lighter and more open feeling. It's really up to you and your DH what look you want. You may not have realized it, but you're lucky to have the brown couches, it's a good starting color for you to work with. It also grounds your seating area and gives it a comfy feel.
I also have brown couches and we're renting, so we couldn't really paint the walls (it's a big living room and we didn't want to have to repaint before we leave). Right now, we have cream colored chenille pillows on both couches, 2 taupe suede ottomons, and a few light and dark brown trunks that FH's brought back from Africa (very Pier1-ish)
On the walls, we have a lot of prints in mustard, cranberry, and brown--those old advertisement types (Parapluie Revel, Tournee du Chat Noir, and Union wines). I'll try to attach them so you can see the colors and, hopefully, they're not too large. Our dining room is off our living room, so we picked up some colors in one of the prints and have a sage tablecloth with a dark purple runner and mustard seat cushions. It's actually really cute
