The first pic is the CP's I m doing, have all the stuff purchased. Should I add this Hurricane shade ( just one per table) with a pillar candle and some rose petals( like in pic) into the middle on the CP's? I would put a little less petals then shown...( scared of a fire..lol) Or maybe no petals..
I voted for the votives alone - I think it looks very elegant and the hurricane shades detract from its elegance and beauty.

I love hurricanes, so I am biased. Also, I always get nervous with candles that are too exposed- I have seen people accidentally light stuff on fire.

Hello! I love the hurricane. I also love the fact that there would be one focal point at the center of the table. The small votives are really pretty - but dont forget lower centerpieces will get lost a little bit behind all the plates, wine glasses, favors, and what ever else is on the table.

I vote for the Hurricane candle because it adds a little height and I agree that votives may not be as visible with all the tableware.
Danfords provides hurricane candle shades and I am incorporating them into our CP. Over the weekend I bought pillar candles to try out because Danfords uses taper candles inside the hurricane shade and I thought the pillars would look better. After two hours of burning, the candle produced a high flame and started leaking wax down the side. This really surprised me and I am not sure if it is because I bought cheap pillar candles or what, but I would want them to last a good 4-5 hours without leaking wax down the side.
So my suggestion is first test out some pillar candles with the hurricane shade before you commit and especially before you put rose petals in the shade. I do really like that look though.

are votives AND pillars (without the hurricane shades) an option? This adds some height without the glass. That's what I like best and that's what I am thinking of using. Is there a reason you didn't mention this?

I don't think the hurricanes detract- they give the CP the height they'll need to look substantial enough on large tables.

the votives and pillars seem nice and natural looking. i thin the glass kind of breaks it up...pretty but i like the candles alone better.
