My dad is in the hospital...

because he collapsed at the gym this morning. It turns out he had 5 stitches on the back of his head and also may have an anuerism (sp?)!!!!!
My dad is such a workout freak, a healthy eater and I just can't understand why or how this could happen to him. But the neurologist said that after reviewing his cat scan, they thought he would have been unconscious but he was wide awake by the time he got to the hospital.
How can something like this happen?!?!?!
Even though the doctor said he should be okay and the blood leaking out will dry out I am still scared. He is still in ICU and they are going to do another cat scan tomorrow morning. He looks so helpless lying there.
I know I have to be strong for my mom. When we came home from the hospital to pick up my dad some things, my mom started crying b/c she had made my dad hard boiled eggs to have as soon as he got back from the gym, but he never made it home to eat them

Can someone tell me what exactly what an aneurism is and is there anyway to prevent this. I am sorry for writing about something so upsetting I just need to talk about it.

Sorry to hear that your Dad is in the hospital! I researched about aneurims and here there is a link about it. It seems that your father was treated on time, and he will be OK.

I am sorry. I know what its like because my dad has heart problems and is often in and out of the hospital.
All I can say to you now is he is in the best hands possible. I am sure things will turn out fine.
I'll keep him in my prayers.

Hi. I am so sorry about your Dad. It's good that he's being treated. My sister a doctor says about anureisms that once you know you have one, and you can treat it, you're much better off, so at least he's in the hospital and getting the care that he needs. I'll keep him in my prayers.

Hi, I'm sorry for what you are going through, you must be very scared. What hospital is he in? An aneurysm is when there is a weakness in the wall of a blood vessel, either in the aorta (heart) or in the brain. It sounds like he may have ruptured an aneurysm if they are talking about waiting for the blood to dry up. That's when the little bubble type weak part of the blood vessel pops, and blood leaks out. depending on what part of the brain this happens in, it can be very dangerous - but it sounds like your dad is fine. If it is an aneurysm that is leaking and not ruptured, they may want to do some sort of operation to close it off, so it won't bleed again. If it has already ruptured, it will probably just close itself off. I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts.

Thank you all for your kind words. And thanks so much for that link. I had to come to work b/c I have so much to do and being at home would drive me crazy. The aniogram they did last night turned out okay so thank goodness for that. They are doing another cat scan today, now I think, so hopefully the clot is just clotting and not growing.
The best thing which we find hysterical is that he still has to act like a man. I am tough and strong attitude. Daddy's never change!!
The visiting hours are longer in the evening so I will be leaving work early everyday till he is in recovery. Thanks again and I will keep you posted.

I'm so sorry to hear! I know how it feels to have a fater in the hospital. Well, in my case, it was my FFIL, but he is still a dad to me.

Just know that he is in the best hands possible now that he's in the hospital. They will keep a close watch on him to make sure he's doing fine.

Please keep us updated on how things are going. Your dad and your family will be in my prayers.

I sort of know what emotions you're experiencing right now... all the unknown stuff... we just found out my dad needs another biopsy... it turned out the 1st one they did was not conclusive...they found suspicious stuff, and they need to find more of it to determine whether or not it's cancerous. I'm ready to throw up!! My prayers are with you, keep your head up, that's what I'm trying to do!!
