my dad (very long sorry)

my dad (very long sorry)

okay guys i'm kinda really upset right now

my grandma died of melanoma that spread 3 years ago. my father now has had some spots on his head for a while. he goes to the dermatolgist every 6 months and she sprays like a 'freeze' on them to prevent them from growing.

my dad had just gone to the dermatologist a couple of days ago but when i looked at him yesterday, there were three spots on his head that looked particularly irregular and dark to me and i begged him to go to the doctor.

he was being all thick headed and saying i'm not going to because i was just there a few days ago, and i keep telling him that those spots didn't look like that a few days ago

anyways, we were visiting the cemetary yesterday and we were all in the car and i wouldn't stop asking my dad to please go. my brother, being a real jerk said that i don't care about anything about the wedding and that i'm just saying this because i want him to walk me down the aisle now while this is true, my dad is like the light of my life and to imagine him not with me (never mind the wedding) is like my worst nightmare

anyways, i just got home, and my mom said to leave my dad alone because he probably just wanted to wait till after this weekend to go (we're going to canada for a christening) because he probably didn't want to be upset.

no i'm upset because she made me feel like this is all real and something really is wrong. i'm just so scared that this melanoma is going to spread. i was the one who begged my grandma to go the doctor when she had me feel a lump in her neck (even though she didn't want to go because she felt like a burdon to my parents) and now i feel like it's the same situation all over again with me and my dad.

i'm just so upset...i hope everything turns out okay and that they can take care of whatever this is.

thanks for listening i just needed to get that out.

I'm so sorry! I totally understand how you feel. Its hard to watch our family members get older - hard to watch them be stuborn about taking care of themselves.

I don't know what to say to make it better for you. All I can do is send you lots of

I hope everything turns out ok.

Oh g-d, why do paretns have to be so thick sometimes when we are only interested in helping them. Example--I had to beg my dad to get his BP checked FOREVER. Maybe you can conspire with mom and sibs and the doctor to schedule regular appointments for him and then he gets reminder calls and has to go?

I know how you're feeling. My father, in the past two years, has been battling all types of cancer. He first had tongue cancer in stage 4 and was cured (a miracle) and has had melonoma before. It was cut out and has not returned. However recently, the doctors found basil cell carcenoma (another bad skin cancer) and it was removed today with a laser. The only thing to do is pray and spend as much time as you can with your father. I pray everyday for the cancer not to return and for him to fully recover. That's all you can do besides encourage him to go! Good luck with your father and I'll pray for him as well.

You should also go to your dermatologist to checked out every year.
