my dad (very long sorry)

Original post by azoodie

okay guys i'm kinda really upset right now

my grandma died of melanoma that spread 3 years ago. my father now has had some spots on his head for a while. he goes to the dermatolgist every 6 months and she sprays like a 'freeze' on them to prevent them from growing.

my dad had just gone to the dermatologist a couple of days ago but when i looked at him yesterday, there were three spots on his head that looked particularly irregular and dark to me and i begged him to go to the doctor.

he was being all thick headed and saying i'm not going to because i was just there a few days ago, and i keep telling him that those spots didn't look like that a few days ago

anyways, we were visiting the cemetary yesterday and we were all in the car and i wouldn't stop asking my dad to please go. my brother, being a real jerk said that i don't care about anything about the wedding and that i'm just saying this because i want him to walk me down the aisle now while this is true, my dad is like the light of my life and to imagine him not with me (never mind the wedding) is like my worst nightmare

anyways, i just got home, and my mom said to leave my dad alone because he probably just wanted to wait till after this weekend to go (we're going to canada for a christening) because he probably didn't want to be upset.

no i'm upset because she made me feel like this is all real and something really is wrong. i'm just so scared that this melanoma is going to spread. i was the one who begged my grandma to go the doctor when she had me feel a lump in her neck (even though she didn't want to go because she felt like a burdon to my parents) and now i feel like it's the same situation all over again with me and my dad.

i'm just so upset...i hope everything turns out okay and that they can take care of whatever this is.

thanks for listening i just needed to get that out.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Something happening to either of my parents is my biggest fear in life. I did have melanoma cells removed a couple of years ago and my entire paternal side is high risk. It sounds like your parents are as stubborn as mine, and while I understand that your father wants to enjoy the trip to Canada, he cannot delay a visit to the doctor when he returns. Wishing you the very best....
