Yesterday I had a marathon dr session -- I had the diabetic couselling session from 4:30-5:30 and then my regular OB appt. at 6:45. So I left work at 2:30, getting off the train in Astoria before 3, which would give me MORE then enough time to get to Stewart Ave in Garden City -- NOT!!!!!!!
I got off the train to a monsoon and was trying to walk to my car but having a hard time keeping my shoes on my feet! Then I had to dry them off in order to drive and not for nothing, but that was no easy feat (no pun attended

) to do when I can't really bend the way I used to with the belly in the way!
I hit traffic every which way I went, I took every side street I knew and was moving along ok timewise until I got to Jericho Tpke. Then the skies opened up again and the monsoon came down and I sat at one light for 20 minutes in a car with the windows closed!!!! But the best is, MY BATTERY LIGHT IS NOW FLASHING and I notice that the wipers are going really sllloooooooooooww and the blinkers are kind of working, etc.

Great! I now put the car in neutral at every light and am revving the engine so that I can charge the battery because I know the alternator is on the fritz now too.
Get to Glen Cove Rd and what a mess -- the Meadowbrook is closed in BOTH DIRECTIONS, down lines, no traffic lights, you name it, it happened. It is now 4:30 and I'm by Roosevelt Field Mall and already late for the session. Guess who calls? Joe asking where I am. I tell him and made the dumb mistake of telling him about the car -- well Nervous Nellie FLIPS out and starts yelling at me to COME HOME NOW. TURN AROUND AND COME HOME. Um, hello, the LAST thing I want to do at that point is turn my car around and sit in another 2 hours worth of traffic with a car whose battery/alternator is dying to go home!!! Not to mention the fact that I am sweating my balls off and sticking to the seat and HAVE TO PEE LIKE A RACEHORSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I finally get to Stewart Ave. 15 minutes late and peel myself off my seat and try to walk/waddle as fast as I can inside to check in and find the bathroom. At least I wasn't the only one late, some guy came in 10 minutes after me!
Now I leave there and as soon as I step outside Mr. Panic calls me asking where I am and if the car started. I told him I looked at the battery and the light is off and I smell something, which means it's the alternator (listen, I had a 69 Grand Prix and learned smells, etc., so I know what I'm talking about) -- he keeps telling me it's impossible because both the battery & alternator are only 2 years old. Trust me Buddy, I know my car!!!!!
Now I take Stewart Ave. back to Lakeville Road and am stuck in all sorts of traffic and the damN 'check gages' light and battery light are blinking, so I have to keep putting the car in neutral and rev the engine and pray the whole way to God to get me to the dr w/o stalling!!!
I get to the dr, walk in and NOBODY WAS WAITING!! The dr was actually waiting for me!!! The only good thing to happen so far!! And the second best thing was that I didn't gain any weight!!!
Now the bad news -- I'm being put on insulin at night because my levels aren't going down in the morning. It's nothing I'm doing, it's the hormones and I'll have to inject myself up until the baby is born!

Six weeks post-partum I have to go for another 2 hour glucose test and make sure everything goes back to normal by then.
I finally make it home (another traffic jam w/me playing auto mechanic) and walk in with the syringes and insulin and Joe FREAKS OUT!! You don't need that, let's get a second opinion, etc. I'm calmly trying to tell him that I do and it's only at night, blah blah blah. How's this for a switch? I'm comforting HIM!!!! Who's comforting me???
Now he starts talking to the Bear Cub -- what are you doing to Mommy??? Stop it!!!
So now I have to go back to the diabetic nurse tomorrow and learn how to shoot up!!!
Another day in my life!!!
