My diamond is loose

My diamond is loose

How often you do get your diamond checked/secured. I noticed yesterday that my diamond was loose. I kind of shook it in my ear and it made a noise, so I am not wearing it today and wont until I can get it secured. I am so sad.

One of my students noticed and asked, did you and your husband break up....they kind of arent getting the idea that i am not married yet... and i said no why. and she said cause you arent wearing the pretty ring... I felt so sad!

Aww...go tonight and get it tightened. That happened to me after a few months with my ring. The great thing is that I haven't had to tighten it since and it's been quite a few years since I first got engaged.

Your students are sweet.

aw Nic. don't feel bad. you are just being smart. your students are so cute- my niece does the same thing...she refers to fh as my husband now- even though she runs around everywhere saying that's she's my flower girl!

get your ring tightened and you will be back to bling-ing!

My diamond has come loose twice! I had it tightened and the jeweler said it's normal! Normal?! I don't think so. It's so loose again, I have to go and get it tightened. I'm thinking about getting a different setting because for this to happen twice in eight months is ridiculous!

Yes, it's very normal for stones t get loose over time. Ideally, you should bring your stones to the jeweler at least 2X a year...once a year at the minimum. The stones, setting and band (shank) need to be checked for wear. Don't freak, but bring it in.

Hi sorry to intrude on the '06 board, but I was looking for something & saw this.

This happend to me about 3 months after I got it. I think something happend when it was sized, b/c it hasn't happend againsicne I got it fixed & that was a year and a half ago.

I didn't go back to the place we bought it ( because they wanted me to leave it), I went to a booth in Tri-County--they did it right in front of me AND cleaned it! It cost $5.

It was SO sad having to not wear it for a while though.

It is best to bring it to a reputable jeweler who is knowledgeable in settings...even though diamonds are hard, they can crack and chip if adjusted incorrectly. And no, you shouldn't have to leave it. This can and should be done while you wait.

Yeah, I wouldn't leave it--try a place that does says they do repairs.

Also, never let them take your ring out of your sight! A reputable jeweler will tell you to come around back and let you WATCH them adjust it. Not to make you freak or anything, but there have been stories of diamonds being swapped out, so it's better to be safe than sorry.

Re: My diamond is loose

I just got mine taken care of today....you can ask HMPena and Goldi about how loose my diamond was...you could actually turn it around in the setting. There's only 4 prongs on it, it's been loose for a month, and I've only had the ring since Memorial Day!!

I had to leave the ring overnight only because the jeweler who does the repairs is only there on Fridays from 9-5, and I was not about to take off from work to do it. So I had to leave it last night and pick it up today.

They fixed it and cleaned it for me, including the dipping in rhodium, since I was due for a cleaning anyway. It cost us nothing because we are under the warranty as long as I bring it in for cleanings.

Now it's nice and tight and sparkly again!! (And I can tell it's my diamond and not switched out, thank God!)
