One month to the wedding and my DJ contacts my bridesmaid (they are friends) to ask her to ask me if my reception hall requires DJ insurance. Turns out they do, and he doesnt have any. Doesnt seem like he wants to shell out the money for it. This boils my blood to no end.
Can you believe the nerve. If as I didnt already have enought to worry about.
Whats the chances of me finding another dj within the next 30 days.

Wow...sorry to hear that. I really don't have an answer..but, I remember when I was booking vendors for my hall...it was a demand for the vendors to have a liscence. Take that DJ TO court!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you really like this DJ and want to keep him, I understand you can insurance him yourself for the day. I'm not sure what it costs though. We have that same problem with my daughter's band and they are trying to work it out now.

That is insane... but you can def find a dj in 30 days! You are better off having one that provides insurance anyway!

Try Music By Michael....if he can't do it,. he may be able to help you find someone who can. He is a vendor on these boards and is VERY VERY helpful and accomodating....

Sorry that this is happening. Check out Ralph from Hi-Energy, he is a vendor on the boards and he is great we use him for all my family occasions. If he can not do it I am sure he will refer you to someone who can.

I would also suggest calling some DJs that your hall recommends since they obviously have a good relationship and are insured.
Make sure to get all your money back from the dj that you were in contract with since they can't keep up their end!
I'm a firm believer in things happening for a reason - hopefully you'll get an even better deal since you're so close to the wedding - they want to book the date so you have an advantage. Don't worry - you'll definitely find someone.

i wouldn't say he screwed you per se, it was just something everyone overlooked. the fact that he doesn't want to take the time and energy to resolve the problem is a RED FLAG for me...
you can take out event insurance to cover him for the day for a couple hundred dollars or so. if i were the DJ, i would at LEAST suggest to split that cost with you if he wants to keep the gig...
i went through this with my band. they told me they we in the process of renewing their insurance, and didn't want me to pay extra for the day. if for some reason they are not covered for my day, i have a plan B and will make sure it is taken care of out of my pocket...

Thank you for all your support again. I hope I can find another DJ soon so I can fire his ***. He was blaiming me and the wedding hall for not informing him of needing insurance. My exact words were
'actually no, you are the DJ and it falls under your responsiblity to inform your clients' I had no idea such insurance existed. As far as my wedding hall, they are very professional and they probably assumed all vendors in the business of providing wedding services would already have insurance. Which I would also have assumed. As soon as I find a replacement I'm firing his ***!! I'm kicking myself for knowing better to hire a friends friend. I went against my good judgement. *sigh*. I'll let you guys know what transpires.
