My dog ran away - HES HOME!!!!!!

AND Im in Florida and there is nothing I can do about it!

My neighbor took his electronic collars off when it was 0 out so he could spend the night in her basement and put it too close to the wire so it killed the battery. She couldnt figure out how to open it to change the battery so she just left him inside the gate. The person who is watching the house said he got there tonight around 5 and the dog had broken out.

He has no tags on him, they were on his collar, hes been gone since sometime this morning/afternoon.

No one has called animal control or the police to report him with them.

Im so sad and FH is freaking out. Hes had him since he was a puppy 9 years ago.

****UPDATE AS OF 10:58AM*****

Riverhead animal control just called me and said that a man called them saying that he had a cocker spaniel on his property sitting on his porch with his dog. Doug (thats the dogs name) is a Springer Spaniel... the guy might not know the difference!! He also said he was brown and white... which Dougie is. I mean how many brown and white Cocker Spaniels do you know?? I get to find out in 2 hours when the dog warden gets back and I can go see if its Doug... KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED!!!!!!!!!

IT WAS HIM!!!! HES HOME!!! HE SPENT THE WEEKEND WITH ANOTHER DOG ON SOMEONE IN THE NEIGHBORHOODS PORCH!!! HES HOME! I CRIED FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES! STRESS IS OVER!

KP: Where do you live????? I called Brookhaven Animal shelter (they DON'T put animals to sleep) on 3 different dogs yesterday!!!! One was a white lab, the other two were together..german shepardish and one a black lab type...post a picture of your doggie!!!
So sorry this happened to you, but maybe someone will find him and call!

This was in the Bellport Area...I seem to remeber you living fairly close to me...maybe call the animal shelter! I am keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!

Karen I am so sorry to hear this! I will pray that your puppy comes home safely, or that he was picked up by the shetler and is being given some TLC

I think people wrote this already, but call the ASPCA as soon as possible if you have not already. Years ago, our dog ran away, and we were heartbroken. He is a black lab, and I thought we would not get him back since he is a purebred dog- but the ASPCA went out in the van, searched all over and found him to bring him home They were wonderful, really helpful even as we were totally freaking out. It turns out our dog was only a few miles away from DHs apartment, he was lost and could not find his way home. Keep the faith, and Onyx and I will say a prayer for you and your dog to be reunited

Awww thanks guys for your thoughts.

I finally got home today. We have another dog (who stayed here) and when I look at him you can just tell he lost without the other dog.

To answer a question. Yes, we do leave them outside. They have a roof over their heads, blankets and a heating pad. When it does get too cold we do bring them inside... they are very spoiled dogs.

And yes, we are in Riverhead.

This is so tough. I think I completly blew the minutes on my cell phone calling all the local animal controls, vets, etc. My FH is crushed. Hes going through the what ifs, ie 'what if I brought them with me'.

I am in the process of making flyers. Tomorrow I am going to go house to house in my neighborhood and ask and put flyers in peoples doors. I am also making HUGE posters for him to post around incase he traveled farther than the immediate neighborhood.

We are offering a reward to find him. I hope that the $$ will make them think 2x about keeping our dog. I hope to God that someone has him, thought the animal shelter was closed Sunday and today (holiday) and will call tomorrow to say they found him and he is safe.

i'm so sorry about your dog
he/she is soo adorable. is it an english springer spaniel? do they have a tendency to run or something? we had one (died last summer) and she used to run away all the time. luckily we found her each time, but one time she was gone for several days. good luck.
