to expect to gain about 35 pounds with the pregnancy because I am thin.

yeah - they told me 25-30. I am 5'2', started at 110. I am now 125. Porking up my bambini!!!!

My Dr. told me to gain 20 b/c I'm *not* thin. I gained 60. Oh well. I was disappointed, but Sean's here and he's healthy so that's all that matters!! I never really focused on the scale... I couldn't control it anyway!! LOL

I have a thin friend who gained 80 and another thin friend who gained 16. Ya never know!!

Weight gain during pregnancy can be a bit controlled- if you eat ice cream sundaes every night and candy all day long then that is not good for you or for the baby.
I was told to gain about 20-25 because of my size the midwife didn't want me getting too big. She said that it can make for a more difficult delivery.
So just do your best and eat healthy.

I can't believe that doctors would tell you what you should expect to gain, are they just telling you that 'just in case' you blow up like a balloon and they feel justified that they said something??

I was in bed off my feet for over six months and I did not diet in fact I was and still am the 'Entemann's' Queen, I ate everything and only gained 32 pounds.

So my advice to all the Mommies to be is just to eat sensibly and don't focus on how much the doctor 'expects' you to gain, everybody is different.

P.S. That goes the same with stretch marks, some women get them, some don't-no matter how much cocoa butter you put on.

I think the dr told me that because he wanted to let me know that I will probably expect to gain a certain amount of weight. I know everyone is different though and there probably is no set rules with everyone. Each person is different.
You are lucky that you were able to snack on cookies and not gain a lot of weight. I used to be like that. Now it all adds up on my thighs and my butt.

The first 4 visits I was not gaining any weight nad the doctor was concerned. So he said I needed to increase my caloric intake or else.
Well I went back 4 weeks later and I had gained 15 pounds. He says to me I know that women have food craving when they are pregnant, and that's okay. But Reena, when you crave ice cream you have a couple of spoonfuls not a gallon at a sitting!!
Oh well!!!! Ben & Jerry's are just sooooo hard to resist!!
