My dress

Original post by Maria5117

My dress came in. I went to look at it and try it on yesterday. I HATE IT. The dress is gorgeous but I look terrible in it... like a big fat white cream puff

I'm so depressed now. All I want to do is cry and I don't feel like planning anything. I have a florist appointment today and I don't even wanna go. There's nothing I can do about returning the dress so i'm stuck with it. I've never seen a bride that didn't look beutiful... but I guess there's a first time for everything

Thanks for listening!

Re: My dress

I agree with the other girls. Ask the seamstress to remove some of the layers. It will make the dress look COMPLETELY different, trust me. I had the opposite problem with mine and they were telling me they can do alot with the crinolin underneath, like add layers on one side, take away layers where you don't like etc. If you look under the dress, there might be some crinolin layers by the waist line that they can remove, I think this might be where you are worried about the poof. I know in my dress, there are two short layers of crinolin right in the front by the crotch (sorry dont know a better word) area that they can snip right out!

I am sure you look amazing!! You are just being hard on yourself and seeing only the negative. Did you go to see it with anyone? If so what were their thoughts. is it that TOM that makes everything anyone wears look terrible.

Really I can't imagine it looking bad you are a beautiful girl!!

I agree....

i am so sorry you feel this way. I am sure you look beautiful and i would def look into what the other girls are saying about having some of the material taking out.

if the altering option isnt possible, even though you would lose a lot of $$ i would consider getting a new one...you don't want to hate your dress on your wedding day

good luck!

Re: My dress

def talk to the seamstress!! when i was shopping for dresses, i didnt liike poofy...but the consultants were saying that the alterations dept can really help and make a big difference...they can take out the layers, manipulate it, add layers

you loved the dress when you tried it on - that why you bought it - now you just need to work with the alterations dept to get back to your original vision

the BEST THING...is that you have time!!! seriously!! dont worry...keep the flower appt...look on teh bright side

you are beautiful -- and you will be an absolutely stunning bride!!!!!

im sorry you feel this way...but dont worry...everythin will turn out well...just talk to the alterations dept...

Just wanted to offer some . The dress is beautiful and you are going to look great in it! Just have it altered the way you'd feel most comfortable.

I looked at your dress and it is completely gorgeous. It is amazing what a good seamstress can do. Don't be discouraged. They can alter the neckline, remove or add pick-ups. When I went to Bridal Reflections in Carle Place, Lorraine was explaining to me how in some cases they can raise the waste line so that the pick-ups start higher and hide some areas (she lifted the dress slightly and it really made a huge difference). When I showed pictures of my dress to my dad - he said, 'wow, what a great smile' - because that's what people will be looking at. But, seriously, they can take stuffing out of the bottom of the dress also. It will be ok!

I agree, a seamstress can modify the dress to be more like what you want. You still have plenty of time for alterations.
