My Dress Story (kinda long, but entertaining :))

My Dress Story (kinda long, but entertaining :))

Ok, I will give some background information first. I got my dress at David's Bridal in Carle Place at the end of June (around the 25th). I am getting married the 31st of this month. David's Bridal insisted that they couldn't get my size, so I bought a size up because it was definitely 'the one' and they said they could alter it. My exact conversation that day went something like this:

Me: 'Are you sure you can't get the 14?'
Salesgirl: 'Not in time for your wedding.'
Me: 'You aren't getting anymore in?'
Her: 'I can't check that information.'
Me: 'Well, can you call another store and see if they have it?'
Her: 'We could probably do that.' (of course, they didn't, but that's another story)
***long pause****
Her: 'You can get the size 16, it's not that big, and they can take it in for you'

So that's what I did. They had my dress for 6 WEEKS to alter the hem, shorten the straps, and take in a little in the top, and put in the bustle loops.

So I went back last Friday for my 2nd fitting. NOTHING IS RIGHT!!!!! It looks like they didn't even touch the straps, the top was a mess (it looked like the sewing machine ate it in a couple of spots) and the bustle doesn't sit right. On top of that, I lost something like 15 lbs. and now the dress is swimming on me in the stomach, ribs, and hips. They tell me they can't alter it anymore in time for my wedding, and that they will steam and press it but I can't pick it up until the 22nd. I don't know what else to do, so I say ok and leave.

Over the weekend, I get more and more upset, wanting my dress to be perfect. FH says go get it and we'll take it somewhere else to have it fixed.

So, I go back this afternoon. I'm sneaky about it, too - I walk in with all my paperwork in my pocketbook so it looks like I'm just browsing (and no one offers to help me, BTW). On a whim, I look through the racks. Wouldn't you know they have a size 14. Now I'm more ****ed.

I go to the alterations room, no one is in there, so I go right into the seamstress's room.
Me: 'Excuse me, I'd like my dress please.'
I give them my paperwork and wait outside. 10 minutes later the seamstress that did my dress comes out.
Her: 'Your dress still needs cleaning, you aren't supposed to come back until the 22nd'
Me: 'You people messed up my alterations. I want my dress, I want to take it somewhere else.'
Her: 'Your alterations are done.'
Me: 'I understand that. They were done WRONG, I'd like my dress, please.'
Her: 'No, your alterations are fine'
Me: 'No they are not. Please get my dress NOW, I am not leaving it here.'
She goes off in a huff. 20 minutes go by, still no dress. I go in again 'What is the problem, I just want you to hand me my dress so I can leave?!?!'

The head seamstress comes out. After much arguing, she wants to see me in my dress. FINE, Let her see the mess. I put it on, she agrees, it's all wrong, she is even cutting out the stitches the other girl made. I tell her my story about it being the wrong size, and that they have my size now. She gets it, I try it on, of course it is perfect. She is still trying to convince me 'Oh, we'll take it in an inch in the back, we can fix the top.....etc' I say no. She says 'well, what do you want to do?' I tell her I'll talk to a manager, see if I can get a discount on the size 14. She goes up to the front desk.

ANOTHER 20 MINUTES GO BY!!!! I am really fuming now. She comes back, hands me a receipt and asks me to sign. I'm like 'What the hell am I signing here?']

They refunded the ENTIRE amount of my alterations, and they replaced the dress with the size 14!!!!!!!! Now I have to find a seamstress to do the bustle, but I am SO HAPPY!!!! Sometimes it pays to be a Bridezilla.

Oh yes, and I should add: the alterations were over $200 - and they still refunded the whole thing

And - just a suggestion - their selection is great, but dont get your alterations done there.

GOOD FOR YOU!! You can't let these sales people walk all over you, and you didn't! I had heard that alternations at David's Bridal could be a nightmare, I guess I heard right!

David's Bridal S U C K S!!!!!!!!!!!!! We went to 3 stores (out of town bride) and they were all like that. My sister was the queen bridezilla when she went to pick up her 'pressed' dress 2 days before the wedding. They were going to give her a $25 gift certificate. She asked what the hell she'd use it for, she was never coming back and her wedding was in 2 days.
