My Dress! Suggestions welcome.

Original post by jsha20

What should I do with these hanging straps? Seamstress recommended cap sleeves that hang mid arm or halter. I am thinking of removing it completely and possibly making it into a sash.

Thoughts?

Cap sleeves are annoying. They have to be taped in place to keep them from slipping and after a while the tape starts to itch. My 3/4 sleeves had to be taped.

I'd tie the material into a loose halter with a nice bow at your nape. It does not have to be tight to 'support' the bodice.
You can always snip off the material if you don't like the look.

Or as another poster said, you can use the excess material to wrap your bo-k.

edited for spelling.

For the sash, I was thinking something like this:

I like the hanging sleeves idea. Such a beautiful dress!

If you decide to go with the cap sleeve be careful because I always think that capped sleeves make the arms look bigger than they are. If they don't fall correctly! So make sure to try it out and make sure you love it! I would make a sash like the vera wang pic you posted! So Pretty!

For the sash, I was thinking something like this:

I'd totally do sash, I think it will accentuate the chiffon even more.

The hanging sleeves at first sounded interesting but I think realistically its a bit messy and a little over the top.

IMO
With your shoulders, I wouldn't bother with cap sleeves. I think the sash would do you more good.

I'd go with a halter, unless you can even out your tan lines this summer.

Cap sleeves are pretty but sometimes really uncomfortable and restricting.

I don't think you need a sash since there looks to be chiffon rouching at the bust. It may chop up your body. The way it is now, you look elongated.

i really like the idea of using them as a ribbon for ur bo-k! as for the dress - it's so pretty as is! the only thing i would do if u really want to keep them on the dress is maybe somehow have them attached to the back of the dress so they flowdown the back??? (but w/out making a sash...i like the front as is!)

good luck with it! be sure to post pics when ur done with it!

Thanks again! I think I want the seamstress to try all the looks on me and I will take pics of each before making a final decision. Right now I am leaning toward removing them completely, but we shall see.

First off, that dress is beautiful!

I think halter would look great - the material is very soft and flowy, so it wouldn't look too severe at all.

Strapless would be very pretty also and I love the idea of cap sleeves, would just have to see pics of how exactly they would be done with that material.
