feel like they are so ruined. FH and I were talking about our e-party today that we are going to be having in our backyard over Memorial Day weekend (which is also 1 year til the wedding). It will just be a bbq with close family and friends.
Anyway, I called my mom to talk to her more about it and she goes 'Oh no, I forgot you guys were planning that. Dad and I bought plane tickets for Florida for over that weekend.' So I said 'Can't you do anything about that?' And she goes 'Sorry, I guess we can't be there.' So now my own parents aren't gonna be at my e-party. She won't even make an effort to say she can re-schedule her trip and cash in her tickets. I'm kinda insulted because my mom and dad are ALWAYS going away on vacation and they can't set aside a little time for me and FH. We are going over their house for dinner tonight so I think we are gonna have a talk with my parents about this. Am I making too big of a deal??
BTW, we can't change the date because it's the only time FH's family can come down from New Hampshire. Plus i'm not willing to give into my parents because they forgot!!

Re: My e-party plans...
Awwww...that stinks...
I would talk to them, but if they don't change it they just have to accept that they are going to miss their dtr's e-party....
A little guilt goes a long way

aww ,,, that really stinks! I say go on as planned ...
we found out that a few people that are in the wedding party can not make our e-party .... I was going to change the date, but FH said not to.
That really stinks because its your parents. Talk to them ... they should be able to change the tickets to the weekend after!

Thanks girls, I agree. My mom should want to be there and be honored to be there. She has been against an e-party from the start though. She says it's an inconvenience to guests. I don't understand where the hell that comes from.

Well that may be your answer...she might be being a bit passive aggressive and 'forgot' about it when she booked the flight

Re: My e-party plans...
I am sorry to hear that....
just tell them that this is a once in a lifetime event and that going to Florida can happen at anytime. But that if they feel that Florida is more important, that not to worry at least you know FH's family cares enough about you that they are willing to come down from NH to attend. Tell them that they will be showing future in-laws how much they really care about you.
See if that will convince them to change their plans. Guilt!! It is the only way!!
Good Luck!!

speaking from my experience this weekend, its defintely not an inconvenience to guests...ive been getting phone calls all day and my mom too from guests that came to thank us for the wonderful time they had, etc etc...
if its what you want, do it...and i dont think u should change anything!
im sorry u have to deal with this situation, though!!

I don't see how its inconvenient for the guests? Did she elaborate on this at all? We are not having an e-party but we are also having a smaller wedding. I don't see how yours can be inconvenient it sounds like a fun, laid back style party...

OMG, i am so sorry you are going through this. I would definately try to talk to them and explain just how much this means to you. I really feel for you, I know what its like when your parents aren't excited about wedding things.
