My Engagement Party Review!
I wanted to post a review of our engagement party ... I wasn't sure if it was ok to post it on the review board (seems like that is just for the actual wedding), so I thought I'd post it here and share it with my '07 girls!
ENGAGEMENT RING: SVS Fine Jewelers - Oceanside
The ring I received when we got engaged was FH's Grandmother’s ring. It was such a sweet and sentimental gesture, but the ring didn’t fit. We decided to get the stone re-set instead of getting the band re-sized. We went to SVS Fine Jewelers on Long Beach Road in Oceanside and worked with Sami. The price was great and the service there is fantastic. They changed the setting while we waited, and we were able to see them working so there was no worry about the stone being switched. I’ve brought it back to have it cleaned, and they did it on the spot.
ENGAGEMENT PARTY LOCATION: Mim’s Restaurant – Roslyn Heights
I have a HUGE family and FH has a TINY family. I decided it was important to create an opportunity for our families to meet well in advance of the wedding. Otherwise it would be too overwhelming for his family when the shower & wedding came along. We wanted to keep it casual and to try to keep the costs down … so we decided on a Brunch.
I had read rave reviews of Mim’s on LIW and decided to give them a call. The price was exactly what we had in mind, so we went to take a look at the place. We loved it! We worked with Barbara in the Roslyn Heights location, and she was great to deal with and very accommodating. We had a few special requests for the menu and she met every single one of them. The food was excellent, many of our “foodie” guests were raving about how delicious everything was. http://www.mimsny.com
INVITATIONS:
Invitations are important to me, and I decided to make them myself. I just knew I wouldn’t get the end result I was looking for any other way. I really loved how they came out, and we got so many compliments on them.
FAVORS:
We did small boxes of M&Ms tied with a ribbon and a personalized sticker. I wanted to personalize all of them, but it worked out to be way to expensive. So I decided since I was doing 3 different colors, I would have 1 color personalized and the other 2 blank. The website was really easy to use: http://www.mymms.com/customprint/
The boxes were ordered from Jean M. They were a pain to assemble, but worth the effort in the end.
CENTERPIECES:
Mom, Dad and I spent more than an hour roaming around Michael’s one night trying to come up with an idea. They gave us the inspiration, but we worked with a floral wholesaler in New Jersey who was wonderful and helped us design the final product.
CANDY BUFFET:
Since we’re having a full Viennese hour at the wedding, and I LOVE the idea of a candy buffet, I decided to have it at our engagement party. We got the bowls and vases at different stores: Target, Michaels, Walmart, etc. We ordered the personalized bags and the signs (FM if you want more info). It was a HUGE hit with all our guests, young and old!

We were so touched by the generosity of our guests. We got a ton of beautiful gifts, and we even got our dyson!!!
