My Exciting day....sorry really long

Okay, So last weekend I had a chandelier shatter when I ws at a birthday party...today...

Yesterday I took off from work for a death in my FI family. He had today off as well and said I should stay home too. But I said No I have too much to do at work.

Anyway, I went to Barnes and Nobles at lunch, came back to my office (I sit in an office with 3 other women - no cubicles) anyway then I put my bag down and went to get my lunch out of the kitchen. When I returned to my office maybe 45 seconds later, there was a man crouched down by my desk. I was dumbfounded. He got up and when to walk past me out the door...oh yeah, he had my cell phone and mp3 player in his hand.
So I grabbed his coat (I realize now not the brightest thing I have ever done) And I was just like 'you have my stuff' (yep thats me captain obvious) he didnt respond so I said it again. His response 'I put in on the desk, mam' (well at least he was a polite thief).

Then I let him go (me at 5'4 with everyone out to lunch couldnt think of a way to detain the 6'0 man) I stood there as he ran off and thought I should run after him, which I did as he ran down stairs (my office is 1 and a half floors) and he ran out the door. I ran after him to get a good look at him, which I did.
So then I called building security, gave them a description. Then the buzz got around the office and everyone came over to get the story. (they never caught him to my knowledge)

Apparently the guy (we have no idea how he go in our office as you need a key card to enter) had been walking around looking for an easy target but kept running into people sitting at their desks. Then when he came to my office, my stuff was sitting out because I had just got in from lunch, but the rest of my dept was still out!

So needless to say I went to work because I had so much to do but didnt get anything done! I should have just stayed home!
I need a relaxing weekend please! Just needed to share!

PS, FI is calling me batman now!

Maybe you should of went into law enforcement as a career. Its a good thing you did what you did, and thank god he wasnt armed, or didnt try to hurt you.

He probably got into the building by waiting for someone else to use their key card and then walking in behind that person. I have done that at my job when I forget my key card.

I always see people leaving stuff on their desks but I never even considered anyone coming into the office to steal it.

OK Kelly it's obvious to me that you need a SPA DAY!!!!!! Time for a little massage, maybe a facial, squeeze in a relaxing pedicure and you'll feel better in no time

that was scary - you sound brave!! Sometimes I leave my stuff out and dont lock my desk - I should be more careful. We use key cards too.

I dont know if I would call it brave honestly! It was just instinct! Plus I wasnt going to let him take my stuff and then JUST WALK BY ME! I mean please, he had to get past me to get out the door!
It was a surreal experience, I really cant believe I did that! Trust me if you really knew me, i am sooo non-confrontational its crazy!
Oh, well, I am just glad this week is over! Time to go out with the FH for some well deserved drinks~!

That is so crazy!! I always leave stuff out thinking that no one will have guts to take anything thats pretty much in plain sight, but this shows me that I am wrong. I'm glad that you're safe though and hopefully your braveness freaked the creep out and he'll stay away.
