My father has not been in the picture since I was like 2 years old.( He was an abusive alchoholic to my mother and my siblings, never me). I'm 30 now. I see that all of you girls get to dance with your father, and that is what I always wanted. My mother's boyfriend who I was closest to has since past. This is my question. I really want to dance with mommy, after all she did raise me.The thing is, is that I don't know what song to dance to. I wanted to dance to Wing Beneath My Wings, by Bette Midler, but I don't want to ball my eyes out. Any suggestions? Thanks soo much girls, this was really hard to talk about.

I am so sorry to hear that.
I lost my dad back in 2002- I always cry at weddings now especially at the father daughter dance!
We went to a wedding in July and they danced to 'I am your child' by Barry Manilow (cue the barry manilow joke ) But I found it to be a very moving and emotional song that could you be applied to you and mom :)

I have a similar situation... My father passed when I was little... And I was going to dance with my mother to the same song!!! But just like you said... I am afraid I am going to ball my eyes out...
I honeslty have been thinking of avoiding the situation entirely... And not dance with anyone...
I don't know... Do you think that is weird...

I am going to dance with my Mom too. I wasn't close with my Dad growing up, and he has since passed away. I too, am afraid I will be crying so bad, so I decided to dance to a faster song. I think I am going to do it to 'Isn't She Lovely' by Stevie Wonder. Hopefully, that will help me not to cry

I think this is a great suggestion....such a beautiful song, and upbeat so you won't feel like you are going to bawl your eyes out.

I lost my dad in 1995, so I will also be dancing with my mom. There's a part of me that wants to just take that part out of the reception, but FH wants to dance with his mother.

I'm so sorry to hear that I'n going to dance w/my mom to either 'I Turn to You' by Christina Aguilera or 'By Your Side' by Sade. Just wanted to give you a couple of other ideas.
