My father lost his job, just before Christmas

What makes me angry is that a few years back they raised the retirement age to 65, from 62. My dad was almost 61 at the time. He was disappointed. Now, as he is almost 64, they layed him off. He's been with them as long as I can remember. And they tell him two days before Christmas.

I am so angry, then I cry, then I pray. I'm at a loss. I was feeling sad this week that I wasn't able to visit my parents this Christmas. Now this. All I want to do is hug them, but I can't see them.

I am really sorry to hear this. I know how you are feeling because my Dad was out of work this past year too. He was sick and in the hospital also. It was tough for a while, but he had a full recovery and has found another job with the same pay as before, less responsibility and hours. I was worried for my parents too and felt helpless I was unable to help them. If you want to talk feel free to FM me. I hope everything thing works out for your Dad. I just wanted to share my story so you could see that things could turn around at any time. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

I am so sorry to hear that! I can't believe they would lay him off 2 days before Christmas! that makes me SO ANGRY!

you know, your father could have a case against them under labor laws. he should talk to a lawyer and see. it could be age discrimination!

My dad was layed off after 9/11. It totally *****! But, he will need the support of you and your family! Stay strong and you will get through it.

I'm sorry about this, but I'll tell you what my mom always told me 'God will never throw you anything that you can't bear'. This is just an obstacle and I'm sure that everything will be just fine!

I'm really sorry for you. My Dad was fired around this time in 88. I hope your Dad has better luck than mine did!

My Dad's company went belly up right when he was 62 years old. It was very difficult for him to find a job..that was about 10 years ago..my parents ended up moving to AZ and he is now working there and they have a nice life.

I'm not saying that should happen to your Dad but things have a way of working out.

The owners of the company ended up taking all of the pension and 401(k) money and the employees ended up with nada..

This is why my Dad still has to work, but he likes working and will probably work in some capacity for the rest of his life.

Things will work out..hang in there..

This really stinks for it to happen now..

My thoughts are with you. Something very similar happened to my dad a few years ago when he was 56. It was really sad because he was with his company for 25 years. He didn't get layed off but his company reolcated and he could not handle the three hour drive each way that it would've been and he didn't want to get up and move at his age
He's a really great, smart man though and he wound up with a great job some time later. It was so hard watching him be out of work. I know how you're feeling. It's really hard to see your father sad.
It will all work out.

I appreciate the kind words. You are all life savers! My father is in good spirits and is seeing our lawyer this week, before his official last day this Friday. We'll know more once the week comes to a close.
