My FH Axed Our Wedding Song!! (Vent)

Since about day one of our relationship our song has been Amazed by Lonestar! I have told him this about a zillion times. I have played it for him about that many times. We were talking wedding stuff & I mentioned our song again. He then says play it for me so I do. He starts to sing it & then says 'I don't want that for our first dance' Could you just scream!!!! I could & almost did! I think he does this to drive me BATTY!!! Well its working!!
Thanks for listening to me vent!

Re: My FH Axed Our Wedding Song!! (Vent)

Men are so dense sometimes. Similiar events have happened with my FH and I could just kill him.

Don't worry, you have plenty of time and lots of alternatives for another song.

What did he suggest instead? I love when a FH says 'Nah. Not that one' but offers no suggestions.

Re: My FH Axed Our Wedding Song!! (Vent)

same problem with my FH - every song I name, he hates, yet doesn't think of any on his own - and to top it off, we need to send the song list over to the DJ in 3 weeks!!!!

Re: My FH Axed Our Wedding Song!! (Vent)

IrishTracy- How about having 2 songs...This was the compromise me and FH came up with. He wanted U2 'All I Want is You' because thats 'our song' but I didn't want it to be the first dance song, I think it'll be hard to dance to, so we are having our first dance with just us and then the 2nd with everyone will be the U2 song.

Re: My FH Axed Our Wedding Song!! (Vent)

Dont feel bad, me and my FH had the same song and he axed it too. He felt every couple had that song and he wanted to be different. So now we are dancing to Somewhere in the Night by Barry Manilow, which at first I wasnt to crazy about but after listening to it a couple times it started to grow on me.

Re: My FH Axed Our Wedding Song!! (Vent)

Oh, I feel for you. My FH did that to me about our favors and bubbles. I started to stress about what to do instead but then I finally said to him that if he didn't like it then he should find something better himself.

I hope it all works out for you sweetie.

P.S. we still haven't picked out our song yet either

Re: My FH Axed Our Wedding Song!! (Vent)

Yep, we're in the same boat. The problem is that FH grew up on solely country music, and I didn't. So I don't know his music and he doesn't know mine. I'm leaning towards going with a classic Frank Sinatra or something like that for the first song, and make sure my first choice, Follow Me by Genesis is played at some point.

I've learned that if I don't ask, he doesn't get the opportunity to 'ax' my ideas

Good luck ladies!
Jen

Re: My FH Axed Our Wedding Song!! (Vent)

We're having 2 dances but the second will be the (Traditional) 'Irish Wedding Song'

Boosh- I LOVE Barry Manillow!!! I've seen him over 5X!! But my FH (who will sing his songs) won't think it's 'cool' enough!

Some other I like are either to slow, to fast or one of my friends used it!
I'm sure this will lead to MANY discussions!!

Re: My FH Axed Our Wedding Song!! (Vent)

My husband vetoed my choice too. It was 'too country' he said. I wanted 'One Friend' by Dan Seals - it has great lyrics.

Trouble was, he's only into heavy metal!!! Since he hates to dance, we had to have something he could at least like a little, so I asked him for some suggestions and we settled on the old traditional metal ballad - Love of a lifetime - by Firehouse.

We had the DJ play my choice later in the evening as a special dedication to hubby. Unfortunately, one of his nutty cousins descended just then and wouldn't let us dance - just kept yakking while I was trying to get him to the dance floor. So if you dedicate a special song, ask the DJ to call you to the center of the floor first - not to just announce the dedication and hope you hear it. It will add to the moment if they put you in the spotlight.

Good luck!

Re: My FH Axed Our Wedding Song!! (Vent)

KarenH my FH loves all kinds of music but is partial to heavy metal also and even has his own heavy metal band. They play bars & clubs on the side for fun, maybe my FH and your FH should hang out lol.
John was ok with choosing a song. We first wanted Bryan Adams 'I'll always be right there', but I think its too slow (???) so we may use 'I could not ask for more' by Edwin McCain.

Re: My FH Axed Our Wedding Song!! (Vent)

Cormican-I do LOVE 'Someone Like You'. will bring that up.

My FH will say that he ONLY listens to Irish music (which he does) but he also like country, soft rock. SO he is a wee bit difficult. But Van Morrison was born & raised in Ireland so maybe I can get him with that! I also look into U2, The Corrs, The Cranberries, Elvis Costello!! LOL!!!

Re: JennBaby - Heavy Metal...

What's the name of your FH's band? My hubby's just crossing to the far side of 40, so he was around when all the heavy metal bands were still together (and still alive). Has lots of photos and autographs he got when he was a photographer for his school paper. I can't tell you how tired I am of watching the MTV and VH1 biographys on all these groups!

We really like Enya. I was thinking of having the DJ play her while everyone is eating.
