My FH made me delete my nastiness

Just to say from a teacher's POV- I know ALOT of people complain that we get spoiled having an entire summer off but until you are in our shoes, noone understands just how much work you do as a teacher...its not just an 8-4 job...then you go home and grade TONS or papers and homework, have to write lesson plans, and then to top it all off either take care of your family or household or both and then sleep and do it all over again.

Its alot to cope with and then put wedding stress on top of it all.

Maybe we should at least try to empathize with the roles of others before we start to critisize.

Everyone thinks teaching is an easy job...until they try to teach themselves!!

Yeah so you have the summers off, but I don't know any teachers who don't have a second job during the summer.

what happened to everyone being happy on the 05 board??? can we just change this subject...QUICKLY!!!!

I agree Aga- you are always the sweet voice of reason

people choose different paths in life and if you chose to be a CPA the more power to you but TEACHING is not a job it is a career also!!!!



so if teachers choose to complain the let them...by the way i dont really think it is complaining just like....if you were on vacation and it was the last day you would want another few days wouoldn't you????

But I think that is more or less what I was trying to say to the teachers...

Its difficult for me to empathize with grading papers at home (which you could do in Pj's in front of the TV, or at a table with your FH) - I'm a CPA - during our busy season, which lasts for 3 months, we work from 8:30AM until 10PM - 2:30AM (YES AM) THEN commute home and take care of our stuff and get up and do it again 6 days a week - And we don't get to do it from home. We don't get snow days, or spring breaks or anything like that - actually most people don't. So to hear ya'll whine about the end of summer - makes me laugh, and actually feel sorry that you are slightly out of touch. That's life - you all don't have it that bad - and I've just found that for some reason you tend to complain the loudest.

In fact - I have co workers who audit your districts - and have it on good authority... you have very little to complain about.

Again don't get me wrong - I am jealous - and if I had it to do over again, I would probably teach.... I just probably wouldn't complain about it.

OKay, so teachers get snow days and spring breaks, however, most jobs get a few weeks of paid vacation to choose at your liking. Teachers, we do not. Try having a job that no one respects and that everyone thinks is a joke. We work in districts that have inadequate supplies for their students and usually spend hundreds of dollars, sometimes even more out of our own pockets for supplies. We teach classes of 25-30 students who all are on different levels. You have students who are a year above grade level, some who are on grade level, and others who are a year below grade level. Yet you have to reach out to all of them and make sure that their needs are being met. Not to mention the parents at home who do not take the time out to get involved in their child's education and if their child does not succeed in any way it is always your fault. Then you have NYS who tells us that ALL children, even if they are special ed. and have an extremely low IQ should pass all the state exams. If they don't well sometimes it is your job that is at stake. Besides all of this we have to constantly go to seminars that we pay for out of our own pockets that are required from those higher up. The salary that everyone thinks is so high is not. I do not consider a starting salary of 38,000 -40,000 a year before taxes to be a high salary. Especially after going to school for 4 years and then being required to get your masters which you have to renew every five years. And by the way, we do not get paid for the summer. The only way a teacher gets a paycheck in the summer is if they take a pay cut during the school year. We put in 8-9 hr days in school and more at home.

I love being a teacher and not because it is an easy job bc it is far from it. I love teaching bc it makes me feel good that I can touch the lives of so many people. I am not asking for praise or complaining about what I do bc I love it! I am just tired of hearing people complain about how easy we have it when they have no clue! You never hear a teacher bash someone else's job, yet you always hear of people bashing teachers.
