it's for your guests to put their greeting cards in. that's why there is a slot on the top.

it's just a decorative way of doing it.

some people use a birdcage for the same purpose.

Thank you! That's what I thought but I wasn't sure. I think I am just going to do a box wrapped in wedding paper with a hole in the top..>I am ghetto lol!
