First, I would like to thank Kristin for selecting me to be BOTW.
I hope my questions live up to BOTW standards...so without further ado.....
**WHAT CAUSED YOU TO JOIN LIW? IF YOU WERE A LURKER FIRST, HOW LONG DID IT TAKE BEFORE YOU POSTED? WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST POST (if you remember?)**
As for myself, I first came across LIW when doing searches for reviews of catering halls. I read the review posts that came up on Google, and never thought much more about it. At that point, I didnt even realize that there was a whole LIW community with wedding years (2010'ers, etc). After a few more searches, I realized that this community existed.
I would say I lurked on-and-off for a few weeks. Everyone sounded friendly and like they all knew each other previously.
When searching with FH for catering halls and finally deciding on one in LI (at that point we were almost 100% sure we were going to book at CLM), we were *DESPERATE* to find a catholic church in LI that would marry us! (logistically, we could not get married in brooklyn and drive to LI). I called a bunch of churches throughout Nassau with no luck. ....Sooooo...with that said...I first posted on LIW!
I dont remember exactly what I wrote, but I know i asked if anyone knew who would take non-parishioners to get married. And, by the end of the day, i got really helpful responses!! One of which was St Rose of Lima -- where we are getting married
Everyone was super helpful and friendly and informative....and from then, I was hooked!
I am looking forward to seeing everyone's responses and learning about you girls (and guys)!!

I found LIW while searching for an RH before I was engaged....i lurked for about two months and then made my first post about average cost of an RH.

My friend told me about the site and I joined was on for a day then forgot about it and came back 4 months later when I really stated planning ( after I booked RH)

Like a few others, I was searching for reception halls. I clicked on a link that gave me a table with halls, approx capacity, and approx price. I really liked it and saw that I could register. I didn´t even realize there were chat boards. (I have NEVER been on a chat board before). I did searches and got a feel for how everything was. It took me a little while to get the idea. Now I´m on more than I thought I would be. This site has been a great help. You are all wonderful!!

I joined because I was lurking at costs of wedding halls and their list kept coming up in my google search..so I lurked for about 2 months..never posted though..joined like asap lol when the ring went on..I don't remember my first post ..sorry :(

I was planning a wedding 4 years ago to the wrong person and I was an avid poster on the knot. I heard of LIW through there but never got into it.
When I got engaged to FH I knew I wanted a forum of people who knew what I was going through. A lot of what I had gotten from the knot the first time. I looked at the knot and the board where slow and that seemed like a waste of time for me. I wanted to be able to get advice and get it readily. So i tried LIW. I lurked for a little bit mainly before I was engaged and then I sign up once we booked our hall.

I came across it when FH and I decided to start scoping out halls online. I lurked a little, searching out the few other girls who had vegetarian weddings to get an idea of how easily that could be pulled off. I became a member after a couple of weeks.
And now I have my t-shirt. Hurrah.
ETA: I joined The Knot's message board but found it to be a little too 'by the book' for me. People here have a lot more creative ideas and SO MUCH knowledge of vendors in the NYC/LI area. And, The Knot doesn't give out free t-shirts. Booya.

My MOH was on here when she got married so I knew about it then...I started lurking about a month before I got engaged and I think I was posting about two weeks before.
My first post was something along the lines of 'Hi!! I'm getting engaged soon probably!!' lol

I also found the site while looking for reviews on RH's. I created an account but didn't start posting on the boards until a month or so after. I lurked a little then I decided to actually respond to something and then the addiction began.

I started to lurk when FH and I started to talk about rings and what not. As you can see from the date on my info. We didnt get engaged till Christmas Day and thats when I started to post. I couldnt wait. I think I found it through google looking at what I wanted as way of a RH. Also I had a friend from HS who suggested it once we were engaged and I told her already joined
I probably mentioned you to St.Rose since thats my church.

the week following my initial meeting w/ my RH I was looking for reviews on it and LIW was the only one that came up that had a full detailed review. of course these reviews were by other brides from '06/'07. after reading these reviews I made the decision to book w/my now RH never expecting to join LIW. after signing the contract and coming home all excited and somewhat freaked out b/c now it was all too real, I posted my 1st post introducing myself and announcing that I booked my RH and have an official wedding date. and I've been hooked ever since.....

I found LIW at first (like a few others) while doing a search of RH's about 1 month after I was married. I lurked for a few weeks and then joined in 10/08
I was searching for anything I could find on different reception halls, and the reviews on LIW kept coming up on google...

i put in a google search for 'review of miller place inn' and a link with a detailed review came up....from that moment on i was hooked!
and actually, i think i joined two months b4 i was engaged, so i guess i was a fake bride at first!!

Ahhhh....good question. I originally registered on weddingsitesandservices.com to research halls. Which broguht me to the Halls by Region area. I decided to widen the search to LI... Much like you, researching halls, looking for loft spaces and scoping reviews and realized that the chat boards were a great resource, got the low down. Took me a few weeks, posted a few times before I formally introduced myself.... I think my first post was asking quotes on a few halls... that is when the addiction started.
