My first vent- it's long

My first vent- it's long

Just to warn you this vent is going to be long. I am sooo angry, upset and stressed out right now. I have been engaged for 15 months now and right from the beginning FH knew I wanted things done early. That’s just how I am and have always been. I actually wanted as much as possible done by Dec 31. I was not at all subtle about that deadline. Dec 31 has come and is LONG gone and yet a large portion of the planning is not done. FH wants to be involved in the planning and is paying for a majority of the final wedding costs. Yet getting him to do anything is a major hassle. I don’t want to become a bridezilla and have tried really hard not to be and so far have succeeded. I am at my breaking point right now. He is a major procrastinator. I have tried everything I can think of to get him to do what needs to be done in a timely manner but to no avail. In Nov. I made up a list of things that had to be done and had him decide what he wants to be involved with and come up with a deadline. NONE of them have been met and half of them still aren’t done. His guest list that I had asked for last June, I finally received at the end of Feb when I got upset and suggested postponing the wedding. Things only get done when I get upset. I made him a list of what needed to be done by April 30 and gave him 6 weeks to do 8 things( which really were not all that difficult-one of which was give me a check for the florist- that took over a month to get and 3 reminders btw) As of Tue. 4 were not done. Tues night I again got upset. So yesterday he ran out to do things in a panic. So they get done half a%^ and without thought put into them. He went to pick up our wedding rings that have been ready and sitting at the jeweler for 3 weeks now without ME. His ring fit perfectly right out of the display but mine had to be made. Tue night he said he was going to go alone to pick them up and I told him I wanted to go to make sure the ring fit!!!! Lets just pray the ring is not to big or small. Then he goes to pick out the gifts for our readers- one is his BIL, one my sisters BF(who has been a tremendous help with the wedding). He decides the perfect gift for them is engraved pens. Nice for his BIL since he works in an office but how is it a good gift for my sisters BF who is an electrical apprentice?????

The flowergirl is FH’s goddaughter who I have never met. I had asked him to get her measurements so I could order the dress since FG lives in Las Vegas and the dress I wanted would take 5 months to come in. I asked him for them in Oct and a few times after. Finally in Jan I told him if I didn’t get the measurements by Friday she was not going to be in the wedding. Well he got them and when I went to order the dress realized that her mom did the measurements herself and although it looked like at a glance they were all there, they weren’t. She measured from the waist to knee, ankle, & floor, not from hollow to hem. So there I am in the store trying to get in touch with FH to call and get the right measurements but getting all voicemails. Needless to say I was Tee’d off and it wasn’t able to be ordered for another week. So yesterday, I went to pick up the dress and the sash and piping are the WRONG color. My color is royal blue and this is cornflower blue. It’s now too late to get another one shipped. The bridal shop however is FANTASTIC. When I ordered the BM dresses I ordered extra material so they are going to replace the sash and piping on the dress with this. Pretty much the whole dress needs to be taken apart and then put back together. The woman at the shop was amazing at trying to ease my fear. All I have to say is thank God I ordered it early, however if it had been ordered when I wanted I wouldn’t be worried about how it will look when done!!!!!

I am just so tired of having to get upset to get things done. I wanted to enjoy planning the wedding. But I’m not. FH has taken all the joy out of the planning and left only a TON of stress.

I am sorry your FH is being a big weenie!!! Aren't most men? You wedding is going to be beautiful don't worry about it. If FH doesn't do something by the date you gave him, do it yourself. I stopped asking my FH to do things when I realized nothing was getting done.

I'm sorry that your FH is stressing you out! I know everything will work out for you guys. Everything will get done! I would sit down with FH and tell him how important this is to you and that you need his support. Good luck!

I think its important that you have a long talk about the planning issues with this wedding that you have . I know it is like talking to a brick wall sometimes, but i think you need to communicate your concerns and take over the planning . tell him things cannot wait anymore and his procrastination is not acceptable!

I have tried to be nice and include him. Just goes to show that being nice doesn't pay off. I'm beginning to think all those psycho brides have the right idea. I'm done waiting for him. I don't want his help anymore. I am going to finish the planning with my mom and sister. AND I am going to enjoy it. I am just so frustrated right now and really stressing about everything that still needs to be done.

I have spoken to him repeatedly!!! He will do 1 or 2 things in a rush job then that's it until I lose it again.

My sister last night invited me to go for a long weekend in Las Vegas. She had won a free trip through her bowling league but now I can't go b/c there is too muck that still needs to be done. I am soo mad at that part. I could have had a nice bach. trip but that's down the toilet.

OMG go to vegas!! what really needs to be done? you have a hall - do you have a dj, flowers, and your dress? If so, everything else is easy and you do still have time. my wedding is in two weeks and I only just started dealing with details because I was in school. I literally did nothing for months after making sure I had a hall, music and flowers. plus I'm going away this weekend AND next weekend because I just need to. whatever is left WILL get done.

your fh is being silly and you can try talking to him but it probably won't help much because it hasn't. mine is not involved at ALL. I literally just tell him when he needs to write a check or sometimes I have to demand that he come with me (like to pick our cake - I did EVERYTHING alone except pick the hall, we did that together) so it's a mixed blessing that your fh wants to be involved, but is being a procrastinator. boys are just dumb.

I am sorry. It will all come into play and it will be beautiful!

My FH really wanted to involved in stuff too and is a procrastinator; I would get so mad...It wasn't easy, but we worked through it and it got better.

Perhaps you can talk with him about hiring a planner? It is an extra expense, but it is much less stressful. Good Luck!

Re: My first vent- it's long

I think majority of us were majorly stressed out by our FH's while wedding planning. I had to pretty much pull him by his ears to involve him and when I made decisions without him, THATS when he would give his two cents. Its a guy thing, I know it stinks but dont hold it against him. I just took things into my own hands completely to avoid the stress of waiting for him to do things.

I think you should def intiely try to go to Vegas, just to get away from things for a bit, it's only a few days...and then you can come back charged and ready to go...maybe give FH one thing to do while you are gone.

Hopefully you can enjoy the rest of the wedding planning!

Re: My first vent- it's long

Thanks for the advice and support. It's making me feel alot better. The Vegas trip is July 4th weekend so I have some time to decide. I'm just afraid my sis will have spent so much $$$ and I won't enjoy b/c I'm worried about everything that has to be done. I obviously can't trust FH to take care of things while I'm gone. Let's see how much I can get done in the next month before I decide.

Re: My first vent- it's long

I am really sorry you are going through this. However, the only answer i can say is don't depend on him to help. I had posted something like this months ago and guess what?? FH still doesn't want to help or show any real interest in wedding planning except for the tuxedos, which are still undecided.

Good luck!
