My FMIL is wearing...

AQUA!! Don't get me wrong I love this color but not for a Fall wedding. She bought the dress 2 years ago and never wore it so she decided to wear it for our wedding. Should I say anything to her about it or just let her wear what she wants. My bridesmaids are in black and so is my mother. And our flowers are orange and red. We having a Fall themed wedding. What should I do? Thanks in advance

I see some people are upset by this post or offended and I apologize. I love my FMIL and I don't want to upset her. I guess I am stressing out too much. I just found this out and maybe it just needs to settle in or not I don't want to upset her. But gosh I am a little upset. Aqua?

I say let her wear what she wants, she's not YOUR mom. Does she have daughters who may agree with you? Maybe they'll say something to her... But personally I wouldn't say a thing.

I wouldn't say anything...she should wear what she wants to. I'm sure all eyes will be on you and not your mil anyway.

Personally, I would have a problem if my FMIL decided to wear Aqua. I would ask your FH to talk to her and ask her if she would please buy a new dress, because she will clash with the bridal party, your mother, and your flowers. Do you really want her to stand out like a soar thumb in all your pictures? Now this is JMO! (If she has a problem with the money issue, maybe you guys could pay for the dress?)

Normally I would say just let her wear what she wants....however there is an exception to every rule and IMO Aqua is one of them.

But there are some delicate ways to go about this...

Maybe tell her that you were really hoping for a fall theme and was wondering whether she could pick a dress that would tie in with it since she is the MOG?

Or have your FH break the ice and tell her he is not fond of the color???

Good Luck!

I don't think your FMIL needs to match the theme. Thats more for your table decor and BM dresses.

Let her wear what she's comfortable in.

What if you really press on the idea that the flowers are very autumnal colors. Ask her if she thinks that it is going to match. Aqua is a very bright color. I would let her know that the pictures are really going to clash. Either that or just keep her out of as many pictures that you can..I think that if you approach her the right way she should understand. After all it's your wedding, your pictures and your day.
Good Luck!!

I wouldn't even think about it. Let her wear what she wants. I'm not even sure what my mom or MIL is wearing and I could really care less. I'm just glad their with me on that day. She could wear a TwoTwo if she wanted.

Sorry. Kinda rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe I took it wrong.

I wouldn't worry about it. Let her wear what she wants. She's not going to be in that many of the otherwise coordinated BP pics anyway. Hey it could be worse -- MY mother told me she wants to wear something 'lime green' and 'poufy' (her exact words)... and I am SO not kidding. By the way, my BMs gowns will most likely be burgundy.

My MIL wore this copperish-goldish dress. It matched her hair and that is about it...Lets just say I was not very fond of the color.

I wouldn't say anything. I don't feel what the mother of the groom wears is top priority (JMO). I told my FMIL that my mom is wearing a black gown and she can wear whatever she wants. Her reply 'then maybe I'll wear a robe'. My reply to that was 'I am sure you'll make it look beautiful'. I am just not going to stress over this and I dont think you should either.

edited to say: I knew she was only joking.

I don't think your FMIL needs to coordinate with everyone else, but if it really bothers you I would point out to her that everyone else matches except for her, that way it is her decision to change to a new dress or not. She may not realize that you want everyone to coordinate. Also, I think black and aqua will be fine, just imagine if your BM dresses were orange!!

Re: My FMIL is wearing...

Thanks everyone for your input. As I said up above, I guess it just has to settle in. Maybe I won't have the mom's wear corsages. Maybe they can carry red roses or something like the bridesmaids and then I won't have to worry about the flowers really matching her dress. During the pictures she won't have to hold the flowers. Thanks guys

the flowers your mothers wear/carry also don't need to tie in with the theme. They can be more neutral.

(I work in the wedding flower business and rarely do the mom's coordinate with the centerpieces or bouquets).

My Mom's and FMIL's corsages match their dress not my girls flowers.. I would let her wear what she wants...

Re: My FMIL is wearing...

Yikes! My FMIL has not picked out a dress yet but aqua and hot pink are her favorite colors, especially if she can wear them together! It kind of stinks but I think a lot of these posts are right, she won't be taking a lot of pictures with your bridesmaids and their flowers so she probably won't clash with the theme.

All eyes will be on you not the mother of the groom anyway. If she's insistent on it, I say let her wear it. Where in-laws are concerned, you sometimes have to pick your battles!

SHe's really not in that many pictures so I would not worry about it. As much as you may dislike it, realize that no one will be looking at her.

Re: My FMIL is wearing...

lol, my crazy (and I mean nuts) mother in law wore a dress she made herself (and she is not a dressmaker....) which was not really aqua, but teal. It was so tight over her stomach she looked pregnant. You just have to go to the flow. Hopefully your mother in law won't get falling down drunk the night before your wedding, and show up to the church in a sweat suit! (I sh*t you not).
