Friends of my DH & I had their 3rd child last night, a boy. They've been mulling over names for a long time but hadn't decided on anything last time I knew.
So she has the baby last night and they named it...
.....the name we picked out if we have a boy!!!
Can you believe they use OUR NAME?? It's not that we shared it with them or anyone yet, they just happened to pick the name. Of all the names!! The nerve!!!!!!
Would you still use it if you were us? They are good friends of ours but not in the inner circle of best friends. So ironic! She overdue and they finally induced her so we knew she was having the baby last night and I mentioned to DH watch they name the baby the same name we want.

Re: My friend had a baby...and some irony
I think it depends how close you guys are and how often you see each other... If its not too often, and you are not likely to become closer, then I say keep your name

I would use it if they aren't super close it's fine.....is it a really rare name?
(I think you are having a girl anyway.... )

I wouls still use it. If you love the name, and had it picked out anyway, why not?

I would still use it - it's not like they have the same last name as you... Especially if you love it soo much

I would use it but I would definitely tell her that you had already decided on that name before she had hers (if you haven't already told her)!

Liz, that totally stinks! I would still use it anyway, but I don't think that I'd offer any explaination....it's your kid and you don't have to ask anyone's permission just b/c they like the same name.
Of course - you could just be having a little and then all of this will just be a funny story when the kids are grown!

Re: My friend had a baby...and some irony
I still see your tight lipped about saying the name
Will this child be in the same circles are your child? i.g; Birthday parties, Christenings, Holiday get togethers? if Yes then I would pick a different name.

Re: My friend had a baby...and some irony
LOL I called her in the hospital this morning to Congratulate her and I said that your little guy might have a friend the same name in July. We were laughing. At least they picked a different middle name when the 'stole' 'our name'. It's so funny b/c I just said it to DH last night. Yes, we will be in the same circles with parties and other GTG's but so what...it's not an unusual name. I just had to LMAO and my first thoughts were 'I cant believe of all the names out there...'

Re: My friend had a baby...and some irony
That same thing happened to me, but I never could say or do much because when my friend had her son and named him Alexander, I wasn't even pregnant yet. But its the name I would have wanted for a boy! In the past year, we've found a few boys names we like, so we're not complaining.
I would go ahead and keep the same name, especially since you've told your friend already. And watch out, you'll have a girl anyway!

Re: My friend had a baby...and some irony
I always planned on honoring my father by naming my daughter after him.
A friend of ours had triplets and she named her girl MY girl name, Alexandria And I found out that an aquaintance of mine also named his daughter Alexa.
Who knew the feminine form of Alexander was so popular?
I still planning on using the name though.
