My friend from D.C. had her shower yesterday. I found out that she may be on Platinum Weddings.
They contacted her, but she is not 100% sure she wants to do it, and if she does, there is no guarantee they will use it.
She is having a black-tie reception at the Willard (next to the White House). All guests are invited to the rehearsal dinner the night before and brunch the next day. She is having a custom-made gown as well.
I'm just like 'wow'. Now I can only imagine how much she is really spending on this event.

My thoughts exactly. But I'll keep that to myself around her. she does honestly seem very happy, and that's the most important thing.

Wow...just wow.
I think even if I had that kind of money, I couldn't bring myself to do that.

Wow, keep us posted. I live in DC, and my friend was married at the Willard, where I often go for 'mint juleps' . . . .

I hope. But just remember - money can't buy class - or necessarily a good time.
Even if I had unlimited funds for my wedding, there is very little I would be doing differently, and my budget is less than 10% of what hers is costing.

Actually, the things on her registry were quite expensive. The cheapest thing is a pair of crystal win goblets for $85.
I am giving a cash gift for the wedding. Probably not as much as the rich people her parents are friends with will give.
But for the shower, we had a theme, and I was assigned '3 am'. So I spent $60 on things that were appropriate for 3am. I made a joke out of all of it.
But, my friend is the farthest thing from pretentious. but her parents are very 'upper class-ish'. They've always flaunted their money, but personally I have always found them to be tacky and in some cases tactless. That is why I said 'money can't buy class'.
