My friend and her husband are having work done in there home. Her husband, his brother, and a few of the brother's friends were doing work and at the end of the day-while she was at work-her rings were gone.
She had left them in her bedroom, where no work was being done and sure enough her two rings-totaling $18,000 were stolen.
Their homeowners insurance is giving them $2000!!!! I just wanted to post this because I wanted to let you ladies know that no matter what-DON'T trust anyone when it comes to your priceless items, and also to make sure your homeowners insurance covers a BIG chunk of your ring value.

Re: My friend's E-ring and wedding ring were stolen
Wow, that is so sad. That is why I bought separate insurance.
I feel bad for them!

Re: My friend's E-ring and wedding ring were stolen
That stinks. My rings have their own insurance. Her Dh should have his brother get the rings returned. Tell the brother they don't care who took them but if they are not returned they are calling the police

Why was she at work without her wedding or engagment rings? Considering the other thread where all the women said they never take theirs off. Unless she's a personal trainer or something, but even then wouldn't she have her wedding ring on?

That's awful!
We have separate insurance for my e-ring. If your e-ring is worth more than a couple thousand dollars, you MUST add it separately to your insurance or get a separate policy. High-valued jewelry is NOT covered under a regular homeowner's or renter's insurance policy!
It's also really important to never leave any valuable things not locked up in a safe or where no one can find them when you have people in your home. Unfortunately you cannot trust anyone.
I think it's immaterial why she wasn't wearing them. I'm so sorry they were stolen... However, there are a couple of important lessons to take away here...

Re: My friend's E-ring and wedding ring were stolen
That's horrible that this happened to your friend, especially since the people working on the house were family and friends of family.
I agree with Kara the fact she wasn't wearing them was immaterial. $18k is a lot of ring and sometimes you feel safer leaving them at home as opposed to having them on your finger, depending on what you are doing that day.
I'm sorry they didn't have a separate articles policy. Most homeowners/renters policies have a limit on the $ that they will cover jewelry wise.

Re: My friend's E-ring and wedding ring were stolen
We took a rider on our renter's insurance to insure the e-ring. It costs us more to insure the ring than our home. I am sorry for your friend.

I meant it sounded fishy to me.
But yes, if you have anything valuable--art, antiques, jewelry--it should be valued and specfically covered in your insurance, not assumed to be covered under your renter's or homeowner's policy.

Re: My friend's E-ring and wedding ring were stolen
That's so awful!! How many people were there working on the house? Is there any way to find out who exactly took them? Seriously the police SHOULD get involved in this because that is robbery and there has to be justice!!!
Anyway, I'm so sad to hear that. Not just for the $$$ value (which is devastating like you said) but for the sentimental value of the rings as well. I really hope there's some way they could be returned. This person shouldn't be able to get away with that.
It's a shame that our things aren't even safe in our own home! We have to be so careful and you can't trust anybody, even friends.
