My friends just broke off their engagement!

I'm so shocked and upset for them! They have been engaged for over a year and living together and all of a sudden I get a phone call from the former groom-to-be saying that it's off. I feel so bad! Now he's moving back home (not in with his parents, but back to Mass. where he's from) so he's looking for a new job and an apartment and he's going to be gone probably within a month or two! I just can't believe that it's over just like that - they're one couple I never thought would break up! I don't know why, but this totally freaks me out!

Aww, that is so sad. Did he give you a reason? Are you close with his ex fiance? I wonder how she is holding up. How did he sound?

Don't be freaked out, you have to realize as perfect as people seem you never know what actually goes on behind closed doors.

They said they just grew apart and no longer had the same feelings they once had. I mean, these people were REALLY in love (at one point anyway)!!!

oh my gosh...its always sad when people break ti off but better now then aftert he wedding when its usually messier and all.....if they are meant for each other, they will wind up together again..if not, it means that each has someone else out there for them!

I'm not that close to his ex-fiance. He sounds ok but kind of out of it - like distracted or something. I don't know if it has really hit him yet - he's kind of just focused on getting a new job in Mass. and moving away. He didn't want to talk about it much but he seemed kind of strange - ok in the sense that he wasn't hysterical or depressed, but strange.

Maybe hes just in shock. Thats so sad

I guess its better that they knew how they both felt before they went through with the wedding.

Right, well I am sure they have thought it out and believe they are doing the right thing. It just goes to show you, the 'happiest' couple can truely be miserable once they are out of the spotlight. I am glad they got out before they turned their unhappiness into a lifelong commitment though.

I know, it's shocking, but better that/he realized it sooner rather than later.

My parents got divorced after 25 years of marriage - apparently my friends tell me that will start to freak me out as I get closer to our day...

That's terrible, but I know a few people that have gone through this and after the dust settles, they all agree that it was the best decision for them! In the long run, your friend and his ex-fiance will probably both be better off apart and with someone who truly makes them happy!
