I definitely don't think you are wrong.

If you were told not to invite these 12 people, there was obviously a reason not to invite them and if you do invite them it could cause a lot more heartache than it is worth!

Please, I need a whole year to tell you the things I have been put through and had to deal with. I mean don't get me wrong, they all mean well, but sometimes their mouths go more then they should. My FH gives up on saying anything b/c they don't listen anyway.

My FMIL can be VERY instrusive but I put my foot down from the beginning (only 2 months, but so far so good) and said that this was our day! no trouble here....YET!

Seiously that was rude of her. Hello - this is a wedding NOT a surprise party. Tell FSIL to work up her own surprise another time. This is not the time nor place for it...especially if you were told not to invite them.
