My FW is going to David's Bridal this Friday - any advice for her?

My FW is going to David's Bridal this Friday - any advice for her?

She actually told me yesterday she is going to David's Bridal on Friday... FINALLY.

Anyways... I have heard mixed reviews on this place from people here. Does anyone have any tips I should pass along to her? Anyone she should definitely speak to? Avoid?

Thanks in advance.

If she going to get her BMs dresses there and have her alterations done there.... make sure she stays on top of them. My MOH had such a fiasco with some of the staff there while she was having her BMs order their dresses. They misplaced all the dresses when they came in. She made arrangements with another store to have all alterations done elsewhere.

Good luck.

David's has some very pretty gowns and its definitely a good place to start looking at dresses so your FW can get a godo idea of what she likes, what looks good on her, etc.

The only thing I could suggest is that you might want to mention to her if she DOES wind up buying her dress at Davids, she might be better off to consider having it altered elsewhere. I've heard nothing but horrible stories about brides and BMs that had problems with their alterations there.

I chose David's for my Bm's dresses mainly out of convenience, since my original 4 BMs (which wound up going down to 2 girls for various reasons) were all in different parts of the country and I figured it would be easier.

However it truly depends on which David's location she goes to. My MOH ordered her dress in Yonkers (Westchester) and it was total NIGHTMARE from day 1. My BM who ordered from Carle Place had no problems and the dress was in in 2 weeks. However they both had the dress altered elsewhere, and they were happy they did.

Good luck to your FW.

Well she is going with her mom and MOH and they live out by the East Wind (where my FW is from) so I take it they will go to a Suffolk location (if one exists).

I have the day off myself... but I won't be going. I told my FW I don't even want to see the dress till wedding day. I like the surprise element.

The only thing I need to see before the wedding is the bill.

I second this advice. I got my second (dancing) dress from David's & you have to have a bit of an attitude or they will make you try on the whole friggin store. Once she finds her dress...def get it altered elsewhere. They train their seamstresses on the job, and I have heard they have a hard time meeting their deadlines.

ALSO: very important...tell her to LIE about her wedding day....by about 2 - 3 weeks..just in case

I got my wedding gown there. I went to the one in Long Island City, I had no problems whatsoever and I had my alterations done there too.

If she is going to the one in Carle Place, ask to work with Maria Elena, she was such a sweetheart.

I went there only to get an idea of what would look good on me. Then I went elsewhere.

DON'T GO!!! THAT'S MY ADVICE!

Make sure she has a scheduled appointment. Then tend to hate 'walk-ins'. If she finds a dress, have her be sure to look it over up & down, that is if she finds one off the rack to bring home same day. They have a big selection of dresses you can do this with. Good luck!

Tell her to avoid them on the weekends. They are crazy busy. Also, like the other brides said, you really need to keep on top of them.
Make sure she thouroughly examines her gown. Mine had a tear at the zipper seam.

ETA: Laura was our sales girl she was very helpful. The customer service was very poor though and because of this I am getting my gown altered elsewhere.

I have to go with everyone else's advice here. DO NOT let her get her dress altered there. My friend wasn't able to pick her dress up until the day before her wedding because they kept screwing (hemmed it too short, took it in too much, ripped the zipper, etc) up the alterations...it was horrible and she was very upset.

She'll find a similar dress at a similar price elsewhere. I'm with the other girls - my advice is not to go.

I think she is going just to get an idea on dresses for herselves and the BMs. This is the FIRST place she is going to. She hasn't even done anything yet in this regard so I am just happy she is going PERIOD.

I will pass along the tips to her (and warnings). She is going on Friday morning/afternoon... i'll have her make an appointment.

If she needs recommendations on places to check out for dresses... ill have her look through the threads here... or have her post a new thread herself.

Thanks!

She just called me so I gave her the advice. She is like 'But I am only looking for ideas on dresses for the girls'. So I am like... when are you going to get your dress. She is like... hmmm maybe November or so. Granted thats November to START LOOKING at dresses. We are getting married in MAY. Thats... this COMING May.

She seems to think that buying a wedding dress can be a last minute thing. Needless to say I convinced her to at least 'get some ideas' for something for her.

I think that's a good idea. The good thing about David's ( yes there is one) is that they carry dresses in different sizes so you can actually try on a dress in your size & see if that style works for you.

I would just be sure to give her the advice that it could take SIX MONTHS to get in some gowns that she may really love!! good luck!
