So my godfather is my dad's brother. They used to be so close (obviously since he's my godfather) but over time something happend and now they don't talk...well I always said when I get married that I was going to call him myself and personally ask him to come...mind you I haven't seen or spoken to the man for maybe 15 years? So I called today! and spoke to him. I think he was really shocked but I think it went well. I said I'd really like him to come....but I would be so happy if something like my wedding brought my dad and him back together. Keep your fingers crossed my call worked!

I have a similar situation with my godfather. He's my dad's cousin. Don't know why my parents chose him to be my godfather ... my dad's family is small and I guess he was the only option on that side of the family. But no one has seen him or his wife in like 10 years, and that's only because his mother, my great-aunt, died. Before that it was like another 10 years. I don't care so much - we were never close - and so he and his fam are not invited to the wedding, but it s u c k s that i don't really have a godfather. Not that I need one so much anymore, I can take care of myself, but just the idea .. i am sure you know!

I have a similar situation with my godmother. She was my mothers best friend at the time and now they dont even talk. I want her to come to the wedding but she is not family and I am not sure what type if role is any she should have in my wedding. FH is having his godmother do a reading and his godfather bring up comunion and I will have my godfather do a reading but not sure what to do with my godmother.

My godmother is my mom's cousin...and I haven't spoken to her in years! But it turns out she is making the trip to PA for my wedding. I really think it's great that she is coming. All my life i wasn't close to either of them, but they are family and it's nice to have them there...as for your situation if you want why not invite her? What is 1 or 2 more at this rate?

I hope it works out for you! I haven't seen my godfather in years!!! He's my Dad's cousin and a couple of weeks ago I ran into my Dad's other cousin who I also haven't seen in years. It was so nice seeing him and I would love to have him at the wedding. I'm not sure about inviting him though bc Dad doesn't want anything to do with him (some stupid arguement they had 30 years ago!)!

Thats beautiful. I had the same situation. I was soo happy when my godfather came to the engagement party. We both cried and gave each other a long hug!!
