My Honeymoon Itinerary???

FI is concerned it's a lot of sightseeing and very little relaxing time. What do you think? I think we get to do both b/c we're on a cruise ship. I really want to go on this cruise but he's not loving it :( Thoughts?

1 Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy
2 Naples/Capri, Italy
3 Florence/Pisa (Livorno), Italy
4 Cannes, France
5 Barcelona, Spain
6 At Sea
7 Gibraltar
8 Casablanca (Marrakech), Morocco
9 Seville (Cadiz), Spain
10 Lisbon, Portugal
11 Vigo (Santiago de Compostela), Spain
12 At Sea
13 Paris/Normandy (Le Havre), France
14 Rotterdam, The Netherlands
15 Brussels/Bruges (Zeebrugge), Belgium
16 London (Southampton), England

ETA: I want to fly to Rome a few days before the cruise takes off and spend some time there.....

Re: My Honeymoon Itinerary???

is that one day in each city?

that may be a lot.... maybe do a cruise that focuses on one or two countries?? or spend sometime a city before or after the cruise??

i've been to some of those places and you maybe spending time saying - oh i wish we could stay here for one more day...

its a great itinerary but it all comes down to what type of HM you guys want to have...

jmo...

I could relate to what FH is saying . . . sometimes you need a 'vacation' from your 'vacation'

I hope this cruise is a month long! Honestly, I have to agree with FH on this one, that is A LOT to see, I have been to Europe and 1 week in 1 country is exhausting enought. Why don't you pick your two favorite countries and go there? IMO it is too much.

Re: My Honeymoon Itinerary???

I see what you're saying but we don't HAVE to take a full day's excursion in every city we dock....
We also have two full days at sea.....
And I edited my original post to add that I would like to spend a few days in Rome before we depart on the cruise.

Still think it's too much?

This sounds like a great trip!! Great stops!!However, when I have gone on cruises, I find it hard to really relax while at port. You always have to be aware of the time so you don't miss the boat. And, its not like you are going to want to skip one of the ports to just lay low in your room for a day- how often are you going to be there, you know? You could maybe do a 7 day cruise and then extend your stay in wherever your port is. That way you get to see all kinds of great places, and then have a few days to just relax and do whatever whenever.

HTH!!

my opinion? choose three on that list, and spend 4-6 days at each of them.... I've been to about 2/3 of the list, but for a week each. I don't think you could even get anything out of 1 day at each... except for gibraltar... london, paris, lisbon, rome, barcelona, florence and the others all take sooo long to truly experience. some of those cities (paris, rome, london, lisbon) I found required at least 2-3 trips on their own....

I have to agree with your FH. If I were you, I'd pick 3 places and spend 3-4 days at each place. You have a lot of amazing places on this cruise itinerary. Honestly I think you will be rushed and not have enough time at these fabulous romantic cities.

I've been to most of the cities on your list. You can't do Barcelona in a day nor can you do Marrakech or Rome rushed. It will totally take away from the experience.

You are going to want to take leisurely strolls and have nice romantic dinners, not run from site to site and being stressed to get back to the boat in time.

JMO.

I have to agree. I think it's way too much jumping around and you really won't get to experience the countries you're visiting. I say pick one or two and really explore and experience what those countries have to offer or find a cruise line that only has a few city stops.

Re: My Honeymoon Itinerary???

It's way too much for a honeymoon. You should pick one or two places and focus on touring them without the constraints of a schedule. Personally, I would go with a location where if I never left the room to go sightseeing, I wouldn't feel like I missed much. That's the only reason why FH and I decided to go with a tropical island. Your trip sounds like an awesome 1st anniversary vacation.

Re: My Honeymoon Itinerary???

That sounds like an amazing trip, but it WILL be exhausting, even if you don't spend a full day at each country... Since you're only at each city for one day, you'll definitely want to see as much as you can in that day...

It sounds like a fun and exciting vacation, but I think you'll come home more exhausted than whe you left. That doesn't mean it's not a good idea for a honeymoon -- just means it will not be that relaxing of a honeymoon. It depends on what you're looking for.

Re: My Honeymoon Itinerary???

Me and FH are doing Ireland and I was having the same problem with him but we decided we don't know when we'll get the chance to go back there ever so I think we rather see more than less.

And because it's not really going to be relaxing (or warm) we decided that if we can swing it financially we're going to do a small tropical vacation that summer (we're getting married in March) where we just sit and do nothing by a beach!

I say go for it!

Re: My Honeymoon Itinerary???

It really depends on your personality. I know one couple who did a cruise through Europe and loved it. They both had never been to Europe before so they wanted to see and visit as many countries as possible.

I'm getting a bit old (I'm 28). If I were 22 or 23, I probably wouldn't think that itinerary would be exhausting at all. It would be exciting. Now that I'm older and have traveled kind of a lot already, I'm all about R&R. I work so much that when I'm on vacation, I like to relax.

It may not be for me but this trip may be perfect for you guys.

Good luck with your decision.

I am sure it is a wonderful trip and those are some amazing countries....but.....you are going to be EXHAUSTED on your honeymoon. We took a day between our wedding and honeymoon and we were still ZONKED when we got to St. Lucia. I cannot imagine doing that much moving around during my honeymoon.
