http://www.cbsalary.com/
try this site - it does salary calculations - ignore the page that asks about degrees - its an ad - click no thanks - then put in your position - after it gives a national average you can do it by area . .if this one doesn't work for you - google 'salary finder' and there are a few other good ones out there. .

fyi. dont mention salary first. if they ASK you then give them a figure. try salary.com , they are usually pretty accurate. if they dont mention salary then dont bring it up until you have an offer.

Thats what I'm thinking. I just want to be prepared just in case they ask.

yYup, ITA and if they do - ask for more than you think b/c they say women often get less money b/c we ask for less! Don't undersell yourself.

Re: my interview....
Universities usually offer a pretty decent benefits package so sometimes their salaries are little bit lower than the average. You could always say that you're flexible as to salary if the position and total benefit package are what you're really interested in.
Good luck!!!

Re: my interview....
If it helps. the administrative assistant at my last job made like $35k annually. she had a social science degree from college but not much administrative experience. this wasn't a university though.

Re: my interview....
Unless they ask you directly, salaries aren't usually discussed in the preliminary interview. I'd wait until the 2nd interview to talk numbers. $$$$$$$$
Good luck!

Re: my interview....
DO you have a cover letter, many times the salary range you are seeking is put into the cover letter. Most places I applied to even said that they will only look at resumes that had cover letters with a salary requirement. Bring in a cover letter with you and put your salary range on there. This way they can bring it up.

I only have a cover letter that was targeted to a teaching job, I happened to apply to this clerical postion through their website and they contacted me 2 months later. I think I'll just let them bring it up

I worked as a secretary at NYU a few years ago. My pay started at 35k and was up to 40 by the time I left (3 years later). They had amazing benefits - free health and dental insurance, tuition remission (I could take up to 27 credits per year and only had to pay tax on the value after 5,300), and I got a nice break over the christmas holiday time.
