My Long & Detailed Hawaiian Honeymoon Review! WITH PICS!!!
My Hawaiian Honeymoon Review:Ok I'm back with my Hawaiian Honeymoon Review!
We stayed 5 days in Kauai and 5 days in Maui at the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club and The Westin Maui. I had the best time of my life!!! First off, we flew from JFK Airport the day after the Wedding, which was Monday on American Airlines. It took 5 ½ hours to fly to Los Angeles, and then another 5 ½ hours to fly to Kauai. It wasn't that bad though. As we were preparing to land at Lihue Airport in Kauai, it was night time, and we saw the moon's reflection on the water, it was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Anyway, so let me tell you all about our days, beginning from the start:Monday, August 30th:
We landed in Kauai at about 8:30 p.m., and as soon as we got our luggage, we were greeted with our fresh Lei Greetings (which are those flower necklaces). Then we headed to the Alamo Rental Car location to pick up our white Chrysler Sebring Convertible. It was the best, I recommend to everyone going to Hawaii, to get the Convertible! As soon as we got to the resort (Kauai Marriott) which was like 5 minutes away, we checked in and went straight to sleep, we were exhausted, especially with the time difference.
Tuesday, August 31st:
We got up really early, put our swim suits on and began to sightsee the resort. We had breakfast at Kukui's Restaurant which had all open air seating by the pool. Then we spent the rest of the afternoon by the pool and relaxed. That night we had dinner at Duke's Canoe Restaurant which was by the resort. We had reservations at sunset. The food was so good, I even had my first Blue Hawaii drink! Delicious!!!
Wednesday, September 1st:
We got up early again to take our Helicopter Ride! We booked with Island Helicopters. I highly recommend them. It took us around the whole island, we saw sights that were absolutely amazing, like the sights from the movie Jurassic Park, and King Kong. Also, we saw the whole NaPali Coast, Honopu Valley, Kalalua Valley, Waimea Canyon, Wailua Falls and Mount Waialeale Crater. That was definitely an experience I'll never forget. When we got back to the resort, we had lunch at the Kalapaki Grill by the pool and after that we went into the pool. That night we ate at The BeachHouse Restaurant in Poipu. It's right by the beach, you could even see surfers. We made reservations for 6:00 p.m., so we could see the sunset at 6:30 p.m. From the 6:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., the sky turns all these different colors, like orange, pink, blue and then at 7:00 p.m., it turns all pink. It was sooo beautiful! We took great pictures! Hawaii definitely has some of the best sunsets I tell you. Anyway, the food was great, definitely try the Fried Calamari, to die for!
Thursday, September 2nd:
That morning we ate breakfast at Kukui's Restaurant again. They had this big buffet. Then in the afternoon, we drove up to the North Shore of Kauai to Hanalei for our Sailing Catamaran boat trip of the NaPali Coast. We booked with Captain Sundown. I booked them because they were the only sailing catamaran that departs direct from Hanalei and which travels along the entire NaPali coast. All others depart from Port Allen in the South Shore. So we had a greater advantage. The boat ride was great. We even saw the sunset, it was just breathtaking! When that ended, we drove back to the South to our resort and on the way, we stopped at a McDonalds to eat something really quick. We were sooo hungry!
Friday, September 3rd:
This was our last day on Kauai, so we did a lot! First, we woke up really early and headed straight to visit Wailua Falls, also known as the Fantasy Island Waterfalls. Then we headed back up to the North Shore to go to Kee Beach and Haena Beach. Kee Beach was so gorgeous, you could see the whole NaPali Coast from there, and if you looked up, there was a huge mountain cliff behind you. There were palm trees everywhere, it was so tropical looking. Haena Beach was nice too, the water was crystal blue, but the water currents were so strong, that you couldn't even go into the water! We spent most of the afternoon at these 2 beaches. Then we drove to Princeville to see the Princeville Resort. It was beautiful! Then we drove back to the South Shore to Poipu. We drove through the famous Tree Tunnel! We ended at Spouting Horn to see the famous geyser there. That was nice too! So we get back to the resort at about sunset and we ate dinner at Duke's Canoe Restaurant again. We finally ate the famous Hula Pie there! It was delicious, a must try! At night, we started to pack our bags to get ready for our early flight the next day to Maui.
Saturday, September 4th:
In the morning, we flew to Maui. We had an inter-island flight on Aloha Airlines with one stop in Honolulu on the island of Oahu. We got to see Waikiki from the plane at least. So we land in Maui at Kahului Airport and as soon as we got our luggage, we were greeted with our fresh Lei Greetings (which are those flower necklaces). Then we headed to the Alamo Rental Car location to pick up our white Chrysler Sebring Convertible. We got the same car of what we had in Kauai. It was about a 45 minute drive to our resort in Ka'anapali Beach called The Westin Maui. That afternoon, we went sightseeing around the resort and took lots of pictures. For dinner, we went to the town of Lahaina which was like 10 minutes away to Front Street. We had sunset dinner reservations at Kimo's Restaurant, which was by the ocean. I had my first Lava Flow drink! That was my favorite by far, it had strawberries, banana, and rum inside of it. After dinner, we just walked on Front Street to all the little souvenir shops nearby. Front Street is the place to be at night if your on your honeymoon.
Sunday, September 5th:
We had breakfast at Longhi's Restaurant on Front Street. After that, we did some souvenir shopping at all the little shops nearby. Then we spent most of the afternoon in the pool at our resort. We then drove down to Wailea to have dinner at Ferraro's at Seaside, located at the Four Seasons Resort. We had sunset dinner reservations and our table was outside right by the ocean, it was all open air seating. What a view. Oh my god, this was the best restaurant and dinner we had on our whole trip! It was all Italian food and very expensive! The sunset was spectacular!!! After dinner, we then walked around the Four Seasons Resort and even visited Spago's bar.
Monday, September 6th:
We got up at about 2:00 a.m. and left the resort at exactly 2:45 a.m. to drive to see the sunrise on Mount Haleakula which is a dormant volcano. The drive up the volcano was so scary, it was about 10,000 feet in the air above the clouds! There were no railings and there were sooo many curves and turns, that if you went a wrong way, you'll drive off the cliff! We got to its summit at about 5:45 a.m. It was freezing up there, like 30 degrees!!! There were a lot of other tourists there also. The sunrise was unlike anything I've ever seen, it was breathtaking! We then drove back to our resort. We were so tired from the long drive, that we just relaxed in our room for the afternoon. For dinner, we went to BJ's Chicago Pizzeria on Front Street. I had my first Tropical Itch drink! It was so good and the pizza was to die for.
Tuesday, September 7th:
We spent most of the morning and afternoon in the pool and relaxing. We also had 3 Professional pictures taken of us by the resort. They came out beautiful! We then went to Front Street and had another Professional picture taken of us with 5 beautifully colored parrots! That was one of my best pictures! After that, we had reservations for the Old Lahaina Luau at 5:45 p.m., right before sunset. That was the best! We had unlimited drinks, I must of tried everything! I had a Mai Tai, Pina Colada and a Lava Flow. They too took a Professional picture of us. We had Traditional Seating which was Mats and Cushions. I recommend to everyone going there, book that, because we were right in the front! We had the best view. Plus we were the first ones to get our food, while everyone else in the Conventional Seating area had to wait. I didn't think I'd like it at first, sitting on the ground thinking I would get dirty but I was wrong. They have this artificial grass there and the mats were so comfortable. It was more of a Hawaiian feel to me, rather than sitting on the regular tables. Anyway, the show was amazing! And the sunset was spectacular!
Wednesday, September 8th:
This was our last day on Maui. We got up really early and drove to the Road to Hana. As soon as we got to the Shell Gas Station near Kahului, we picked up our Hana Cassette Guide, which included a map of the Hana Coast, a narrated CD of the drive and a DVD called Maui Island Paradise. For $20 you get all that, plus at the Picnic Stop store next door...for a $7 non-refundable deposit they give you a Styrofoam cooler filled with ice, so this way you can put your lunches and drinks in there. That's what we did because the drive was going to be a long one! The drive was beautiful and scenic, we only made like 5 stops to take pictures and video. We even saw a Black Sand Beach! As soon as we hit Hana, we turned around and went back the way we came. We were too tired to continue past Hana. When we reached the Shell Gas Station again, we returned our Styrofoam cooler and I bought a 'I Survived the Road to Hana' T-shirt! We got back to the resort at about 4:00 in the afternoon. We were beat. For dinner, we went to Front Street and ate at this restaurant called Cheeseburger in Paradise. It was a very lively, laid back place and they had this guy singing live guitar music. He was loud and you could hear him playing from outside. Definitely a must do while your in Lahaina. Their cheeseburgers were sooo good! After that, we went back to our resort and started to pack our bags.
Thursday, September 9th:
It was time to go home. I was kind of sad. We had such a great time and it had to all end. We drove to Kahului Airport and dropped off our rental car. Our flight was in the early afternoon on American Airlines. We had a stop in Los Angeles, and then catched another plane to New York. The rest of the day was spent flying due to the time differences.
Friday, September 10th:
We landed at JFK Airport in New York real early in the morning. We were home. And that's the end of our Hawaiian Honeymoon story. We hope to go back there someday. It was definitely our Dream Vacation of a Lifetime!!!
