Sorry for the delay, things have been rather busy here with the baby but more than that, I actually needed help from my husband to remind me of how things happened! Ok, here goes: I was long past my due date (which was April 24) and feeling rather whale-ish. I was going to the doctor every 3 days for a sonogram so he could watch my amnio fluid. On Monday May 5th he told me it was getting low and he wanted to induce labor the next day. I wasn't dialated or effaced in any way. So Tuesday morning I was to go to the hospital for induction (North Shore Univ.-Manhasset). I got there at 8am and was admitted. I was given a cervidel (sp?) gel around 10am and contractions started just after. The contractions were pretty consistent and for the first 5 hours not too bad. However, I was still not dialated at all. The contractions started to get painful and they gave me Stadol (a pain reliever) thru an IV. They had the baby on the heart monitor to watch for fetal distress. That night I still wasn't dialated at all. This baby did not want to come out at all! Around 3 in the morning the resident came in and decided my water had broken (it really hadn't). My doctor came in the morning and checked for dilation again and I was a fingertip dilated and 50% effaced. He broke my water around 11:30am. My contractions were erratic so they then gave me Pitocin to steady them. At about noon I got an epidural (so much for natural childbirth!) and about 1pm they had to put the baby on an internal fetal monitor (they stuck something in his head ) to keep a closer eye on his heartrate. At this point I was 3 centimeters dialated but still only 50% effaced. Around 4pm with no progress, the baby's heart rate was dipping too much and my doctor said I needed to have a C-section. At this point, after 30 hours of labor, I didn't care! Anything to get my baby out! So in I went, and at 4:48pm on Wednesday, Joseph was born. He weighed 8 pound 5 ounces and was 21 inches long. When the doctor took him out, he said he was still all the way up by my boobs, never even dropped. I guess he was happy in there. I stayed in the hospital for 4 days and went home on Mothers Day with the best present ever! I will try and post some pictures but I've been having trouble resizing them to post.

I'm glad everything turned out ok. Thanks for sharing your story. Sounds like you've got a little stubborn one, he was just so comfy he didn't want to come out.

Oh my goodness!! He was way too comfy, mommy! My sister went through almost the same thing - over 24 hours of labor and then a C/S!! The most important thing is that he's healthy!!
Thank you so much for posting your story!!!

Re: My long overdue Labor Story-Long
Congrats on your bundle of joy! Sorry it was such a long labor but always well worth it. How did you like NSH Manhasset? that is where I am delivering as well via c-section (second child). How was the stay there? Any suggestions?

Thanks everyone! I still can't get the resizer to work. I will try shutterfly.com
North Shore Manhasset was great. The nurses were awesome there. Every single one was great. My favorite was Hope. I wasn't happy with my roommate the second night of my stay (her husband smelled so bad it made me sick!) so I moved to a private room which was a thousand times nicer but overall I really liked the hospital. My doctor (Berliner) is wonderful also.
