Here is the pic of the finished poncho in Homespun French Provincial. The picture doesn't do the verigated yarn justice but you get the idea.

Sasha crocheted this. Isn't it beautiful? LionBrand.com also has a knitted version, although I haven't checked it out.

Re: My Martha Poncho (for LIMom and anyone else)
There are 4 patterns online that I know of. I believe the most popular is at LionBrand.com. That is the one sasha made.
I'm making the one on Maggiescrochet.com but I am adding the scallops from the one above.
There is one on Bernat.com
and lastly Lily Chin, supposedly the fastest crocheter in the world, came out with a pattern also. http://www.interweave.com/knit/events/freedom_poncho_pf.asp

Re: My Martha Poncho (for LIMom and anyone else)
thanks for the compliments! I used the Lion Brand pattern but made it shorter b/c I'm petite. I just finished a crocheted capelet that turned out nice. I put a flower on it and used one of my grandmother's buttons for the center. I'll try to post pics when I get a chance.

Re: My Martha Poncho (for LIMom and anyone else)
Sasha, was the LionBrand scallop hard? I'm finished with the body of Maggiecrochet's pattern but I want the LB edging. Just to show you, I had to make 8 extra rounds to that one. I'm 5'6 and it must have been a shorter pattern to start. I used HomeSpun romanesque. They have really pretty colors. It was hard to decide.
How many skeins did you use? I'm going to have to start a fifth before I'm done. I have the edge as well as the collar left.
Thanks. I can't wait to see your capelet. It sounds really pretty. You work faster than I do. (said with a twinge a jealousy. LOL)

Re: My Martha Poncho (for LIMom and anyone else)
Sasha, may I please ask a favor? Would you please measure the edging so I can figure out how many more inches that adds to the poncho. It's still doesn't reach my wrist but it's close.
Thanks so much. Mary

Any time Mary! Mine was shorter b/c I'm only 5'1'...I did 18 rounds before the scallop and it comes to the middle of my forearm. I didn't want it all the way to my wrist. At the peak the scallop is about 3 inches.

Here are some pics of the capelet (which looks much better than the pics allow!). It falls just above the waistline. I put one of my grandmother's buttons in the center of the flower. I hope the pics work!
Thanks for measuring the scallop for me. I love your capelet. What pattern did you follow?

Re: My Martha Poncho (for LIMom and anyone else)
You're welcome! Do you think the neck of your poncho will turn out alright?
I followed a couple patterns for it! I did the Lion Brand Town and Country capelet for the body of it, added a basic scallop (not their fringe b/c a friend has one like this from a store that I kind of wanted to copy!), and a flower pattern for a website. It was so quick to make b/c it's mostly half double crochets! Now I'm working on a blanket for my living room and trying something new. The pattern has me using two strings of yarn at the same time. It's coming out so thick and fluffy!

Re: My Martha Poncho (for LIMom and anyone else)
Hi Sasha, you are so talented. I hope you don't mind that I am going to bother you once again. I finally finished the Matha poncho and it doesn't look good on me.
Would you have a moment to please measure all the dimensions for me on yours?
Mine came out 26 inches in length at the arm sides, 31 inches in length at the longest point, and measured flat out, it is 45 inches across the widest part (arm scallop to arm scallop). Neckline flattened measures 11 inches. I did add several inches to the length because I wanted it long enough to come to the wrist. That is fine. The problem starts way up just below the shoulder.
It is much too wide in the body and I look huge in it. I would want to go back to round 12 and start over again. But first I want to be sure the Lion Brand poncho would work this time. I used the Maggie pattern with the Lion Brand scallop and the Maggie neckline is very nice. It looks beautiful on the bed, but on me it's awful.
Thanks so very much.
Oh... I was supposed to make one for my daughter but after she saw the trouble I'm having she asked for an afghan instead. Do you think the HomeSpun yarn would be good for that, or should I buy a different yarn? Is there a photo of the one you are making online? I don't want one with lots of squares to join together. I want to make it one large piece.
I appreciate your help. Mary

Re: My Martha Poncho (for LIMom and anyone else)
Hey Mary! Sorry to hear you weren't happy with yours. I made mine smaller than the Lion Brand pattern b/c I'm only 5' tall. I left off like 3 or 4 rounds. Plus, the chain I started off with was smaller. Do you still want me to measure it? I wouldn't mind at all.
My afghan is coming along nicely! I used another Lion Brand pattern for it. I tried 3 other patterns that I had first but didn't like any of them. This is the waterfall pattern on the website. It is done with Homespun too and worked with two loops/strings of yarn at the same time. It doesn't have squares or 'holes' in it. I found a nice edging on some site that I plan to put on it too. I will try to take a picture of it soon (been busy selling our townhouse/buying a house this week!). The picture on Lion Brand doesn't do the blanket justice.

Julianne, how sweet of you to respond so quickly. When you have time I would appreciate the width of the poncho, at the widest point. If you also measure down from the neckline along the fold on the arm to that point it will help me compare. I hope this makes sense.
I'm 5'6 but although I manage to stay a size 8 (manufacturers are very generous these days!), I am a bit well-endowed on the top. That heavy yarn and the generous width of the poncho really make me look huge. I should have realized that. I made another one last summer and it falls really nicely....this is the why I'm sure some measurements will help me decide if it's worth redoing.
Otherwise, I was thinking of putting it up on eBay. I'm sure someone will love having it if I made it cheap enough. LOL!!
Good luck in your new home. That is so exciting for you. Please don't rush. We have a busy week ahead of us also, so nothing will get started for some time.
