My cousin got married this weekend and offered to lend us her handmade quilted chuppa for our wedding. It's so beautiful! The only problem is, it needs to be held, which means we have to figure out who holds it. Can we have 4 people from the BP hold it, or should it be 4 other people? We have 10 people in the BP, plus 4 parents, the rabbi and us standing up there. It'll be too crowded with 4 more!
How about if each of your parents hold a pole, which would be very symbolic. THe chuppah symbolizes the home you will build and share together. It seems very fitting that your parents would be the 'foundation' of that home and life you build together.

That is beautiful! I know that at FI's first wedding, they had 4 additional people hold it but I do not see why your BP cannot hold it. Will it be walked up in the processional as well?
Are you allowed to use four pretty wrought iron umbrella stands? Then MOH, BM and two others can grab it for the important parts.

BUMP for the day crew because I'm still undecided and I like to show off.

Re: My maybe chuppa/Jewish bride Q
you can ask 4 membres of the BP to hold it for you. Traditionally it's supposed to be only men that hold the Chuppah (that's the Orthodox way). But I believe a reform rabbi won't have a problem if you want to have 2 of your BM's and 2 of your GM hold the poles.

Re: My maybe chuppa/Jewish bride Q
We took this as an opportunity to honor people who weren't in our BP. Our BP was so large as is that even though we loved these people we couldn't ask them to be BMs and GMs. So they became Chuppah Bearers and it was very lovely.

Re: My maybe chuppa/Jewish bride Q
I would use people from the bridal party or get 4 long poles and put them in potted plants b/c every time I see people hold it, they keep switching arms and it looks heavy and they look annoyed. I end up focusing on the men holding the poles making faces rather than the bride and goom and the ceremony.
