my mom is nuts

my mom is nuts

in march me and my moh went to surprise my mom in new orleans for her bday. while there for the weekend we went to a country type bar/club. my mom met some biker looking guy. they started going out eventually after that. then eventually he moved in with her.

today she text messages me at 10 am saying she is getting married at 1 pm (central time) so yes my mom is now married. I have 2 stepsisters, & 1 stepbrother now!

she says she didn't want to make a big deal about it because I'm getting married. she sent a text to fh at 9 am telling him! and her ex bf she was with for 8 years, she told him last week! I'm her only daugher!!!! besides an aunt, and 2 cousins no one else in the family knows. but still I was almost the last to know.

aren't moms supposed to be the responsible ones? I feel like my life became a lifetime movie lol. does this mean he has to usher her down the aisle now? I have no idea how my dad is gonna react. I barely even know this guy. now he's family! ugh. my mom must think she's a celeb to run off and do this.

yup. we met him that night at the club. then when I saw her for mothers day. he has a thick southern accent. I wish she would have married the ex. she was with him for 8 years.

I shoulda known something was up when she suddenly decided to come to los angeles in sept with me & fh. it's gonna be like their honeymoon. I thought she just wanted to buy my wedding shoes at neiman marcus. it's so weird I barely know him. it's hard to understand him. with the accent.

im sorry that your dealing with this..but maybe your mom really was thinking she didn't want to steal any of your thunder!!!!!! I'm sure he's a great guy once you get to know him...there must be a reason she wanted to marry him in the first place, right? but i do understand how you feel.. i would have wanted to know and be included and what not. I mean it's a big deal even if she doesn't make it one.. :(
hey maybe he'll feel bad about not really getting to know you and he'll offer to pay for some of your wedding! lolol.. hope it works out!!!

at first we actually thought he was trying to hit on us me & moh. he kept calling us over. then I realized he was asking where my mom was lol. he has a thick southern accent. he seemed nice though. a true southern guy though. I dunno how they do it. my mom is a true new yorker. but opposites attract. when I can understand him though he def seems nice.

if it makes you uncomfortable you don't have to have him escort your mom down the aisle.. you can leave that job for an usher you've chosen. Or maybe have your mom and dad walk you down the aisle and then he would already be seated. I mean i guess normally he would walk with her... but being that he doesn't even really know the family it may not make hime to comfortable to be the center of attention either..so that could work to your advantage. You can just say to your mom.. look mom i already asked so and so to escort you and i'd feel really bad taking that job away from (name here) because it's an important job. Maybe he can escort her out as you all recess so there would be less focus on them ..

If it makes you feel very uneasy i would just work around it... if you think everyone will be ok with it.. especially you.. then i think it would be fine!!! It's up to you IMO. Sorry i can't be of more help

Re: my mom is nuts

I feel your agony...My mom knew a guy 3 months & got married....divorced in 11 months (mind you 2nd divorce). Now my issue is that she's dating a guy my age (I'm 36, she's 54 in Sept.) AND get this....he wants to get married & have kids!!! I'm more mad at my mom for persuing him & taking that dream away from him, so that she can have her 'boy toy'.....I've never met him...she lives in FL...but I could care less if I ever meet him either...Just another revolving door to me. But my husband-2-b is 45...see where I'm going?
SO.......you're not alone...I'm hoping he'll be gone B4 I get married LOL (I know, that's mean...just tired of her saga life). PS I DOUBT it's 'love', my mom is loaded & he's a personal trainer/car detailed/ebay seller.....I say looking for a 'sugar mama'...ARG!

SOrry for venting....I needed that.....

I would be floored...why were you the last to know? If you arent going to be comfortable I am sure he dosent have to walk her down the aisle...maybe she truly didnt want to take away from your planninng though I am sure she could have told you ahead of time that she was doing it....but maybe she was afraid of how you would react? I hope you and your mom talk this through so there are no hard feelings....and yes moms can have mid life crises ...hell sometimes I have midweek crisies lol

wow...so crazy! FH's mom is kinda going through this right now....we are not sure if they are living together becasue she lives so far away, but he is waiting any day now for the call As long as your mom is happy and he treats her well we kids jsut have to be happy for them and be there to help them through if it doesn't work out......Good luck with everything

Re: my mom is nuts

Be happy for her? That would be easier said than done if SHE could just 'be happy' for me! She was here from FL in June for 4 days (3 of which we fought) because SHE wants to 'change' certain aspects of my husband-2-b. I couldn't throw her on the plane fast enough.
SO, I wish as 'the kids' I could just be happy for her, but I don't get the same respect from her. It makes it very difficult to do.....and once again I'm 36...

whoa crystal, i'm sorry to hear you're dealing w all that!

my mom can act like a teenager sometimes too but i can't even imagine how i would feel if she did something like that. i hope eventually you get to know this guy and have better feelings about him, and all i can say is just try to be supportive of your mom. i don't know the whole situation, but you don't want to tell her how you really feel and have her alienate you. but i know that's probably really hard to keep from her.

i hope however you decide to handle it, that you feel better about it eventually.

Unfortunately sometimes the people that are supposed to be the most stable are off their rocker. I made the mistake of inviting my mother to my engagement party and I found out she is now dating my MOH's father. Extremely inappropriate but she could care less. Hang in there sister!!
