I went shopping yesterday for items to fill up the bridesmaids tote bags with..I brought lotions, body wash, soap, hair stuf..etc...so Im showing it to her and she says, 'Let them buy their own stuff too' W T F!!!! ahhh!! Im telling you..ever since I started planning this wedding my mom and I have been bumping heads

Trust me she knows...I told her a few mths ago that gifts are given to the BP...Ithink she likes to upset me sometimes..

I'm thinking of buying my nieces, who are my bridesmaids, tickets to see Wicked--they're obsessed with the music, but haven't seen it yet. My sister (not their mom) doesn't understand why I want to buy them anything. Because brides give their BMs gifts? It's tradition? I know they'd love to see it, it's just so hard to get tix, and expensive, too. But I think I will, as I want to see it too!

dont worry , dont let it bother you so much, mothers are always like that, they are there to annoy the crap out of you, my mother in india left friday, so i kinda miss all that from her....

i was in a wedding recently and the bride gave us vera bradley mnogrammed makeup bags,moie tickets, random wash and lotion form old navy, notepads and a card.
im trying to think of what i would give my girls.

I don't think some moms know how things work these days! My mom has been married 4x's and has never had a real wedding. So when I ask her about something she gives me the same I don't know, I never had a real wedding. But I say, you know what looks good right? Does she not want to be involved, make the wrong choice? I am trying to take everything with a grain of salt like I was told to do when I had my daughter and was getting 30 year old advice!
You're almost there, you will survive. Just take a deep breath and know that it'll all owrk out!

I agree, I think they just don't understand that things are done differently today. My Mom is very PR old school and doesn't know much about wedding rules and planning. I think they just see it as carefree spending. Try not to let it stress you.

When I first got engaged my mom and I fought non-stop. It was terrible, I couldnt talk to her without getting into an argument or crying.
Sometimes, even when you KNOW you are right, you have to just let it go because there are some things they just dont know. Sometimes our moms are just as stressed as we are and don't know how to handle it.
I found that rather than snapping back in frustration, if I would just take a deep breath, and try to answer her in a way that wasn't obnoxious or sarcastic, the situation wouldn't escalate into a fight. (It was my fiancee who advised me to handle it this way because he didn't want to see me upset so frequently - and we haven't had a huge fight since!)
Try to remind her gently that it is your big day so you are doing things that you want to do, and that you welcome her input but not her direction.

I am sorry to hear that. My advise would be to try to ignore it and most likely her behavior is because she is unaware of the traditions for our generation.

My mom lives in Las Vegas, so I do not get to plan anything with her. It is kind of sad. I really wish she was here to help with my planning. At this point, I would not mind if she upset me, stressed me out, or anything. I just wish my momy was here with me.

Wow..ur story sounds just like mine!!! She gets mad at my sarcasm..but sometimes I just cant help it...she upsets me like every single day!
